I'm pretty happy with my ME for now. If I upgrade though it will be 2000, not XP.
Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats". |

I think there are ways though to get Windows XP installed on more than one computer, I've heard of cracks, but I really don't their credibility.

Windows XP is excellent, definately the best Windows OS so far.
And its really not that dificult to install it on multiple computers - just download the Devils Own release and use a Corporate version serial. Could take awhile though on a 56k modem. :-P |

XP is only fair, it is a major resource hog, even with a power house computer think how much faster your sys would run with a leaner OS. also I have numerous "hacking" proggies that will not operate with Bill's new super snooper OS, I will stay with my optimized "read Tweaked" Win98SE and Linux for the time being............................................. ........

Well, i went form 2k to xp. back to 2k and now back to xp. I really like 2k, having no problems with xp now (had burner probs the first time, but nero updated). Either one is far more stable than ME (that was horrible for me) and 98SE (best of the 9x series).
With ME 1.5 days was as far as I could go wo a reboot. I could sometimes go a week on 98se, but with 2k and xp bsod is almost an ancient memory. As far as using on multiple computers, corp version is the way to go, not hard to find it. But if u cant, look me up. |

There are settings and options of Windows XP that make it the opposite of a resource hog, and make it function (system resource wise) similar to Windows 98. All you have to do is turn off effects like the shadow text and other cool features that make it more visually appealing, any computer nerd should know that.

Linux doesn't have enough compatibility, have you ever tried to use USB devices on Linux? I'm telling, it's a fate worse than hell.:devil

I have found XP to be ok on new pc's but I have alot of problems with clients older pc's other software and hardware are taking a long time to send out updates and pacthes so older hadware will work with XP . Personally I use win2000 and have no complaints with so far.

Win98 for personal use? Dont think so, 2k pro (or xp if u tweak it). no 9x os is stable enought unless you like rebooting.

I like the idea that winXP is the best OS from microsoft(i guess all those years of crap paid off) i find it that it almost fixes itself. but i really , really hate that generic host connecting to the net.
But Linux will always rock, too sad that people aren't seeing that, this version, since it's more stable and Win2k datacenter and advanced server, it's really giving a beating to linux.... |

Linux will continue to be a second tier OS until it becomes simpler to use (for those who desire simplicity) and more user friendly. While Linux does have features and functions and stability lacking in Windows, you cant expect the average user to pick it up. Imagine people who have trouble understanding Microsoft OSs trying to settle into a Linux environment - it wouldnt be pretty. :cross
