I was wondering if you could put Mac OS X on a PC platform?

it says on the site you need an apple computer but sites tend to bullshit so you buy their stuff.

No, it'snt possible to run MacOSX on a PC. The other way around isn't a problem though. You just need Virtual PC, which runs al kinds of Windows OS'es on a Mac.

i read that they did it (osx) with x86 in mind, and they have an x86 version, just not a public one

Well, there are different enviroments in os X. Carbon which is a transition enviroment. For instance if it is a carbon program it can run in both os 9 and os X. Now with the new os X jagwire otherwise known as os 10.22 they introduced a new inviroment, darwin now if you have a non-jag os X then you can't run darwin programs (the mac direct connect was programed for darwin).

In short: All the enviroments that os X uses execpt Carbon can run on a x86 prosser. Now when apple switched form 603 to the 604 (other wise known as a powerPC chip) there operating system changed and old programs desied for the 603 had to be emulated. The same could go for carbon if apple decided to eather switch to a intel or amd prosser or port osX to the pc world.
There is talk of Mortoralla dumping the G4 (the prosser used by apple) There is also talk of IBM picking up the project but apple could go x86 with little problems with there operating system. I would immagen some kind of wine being made when osX goes x86 apple would be crazy not to.

the true question is, with apple rolling out new products, like the 12 and 17-inch powerbooks... is apple really gonna move to x86? if motorola dumped the g4, and ibm picked it up, we could see serious advances. however, what if motorola was the company working on the g5? altho legendary, they could be devoting more time to the g5 then the g4. it would explain their lack of speed with the g4...

i would wet myself if apple releases the g5 and it stomps the x86 competition... but apple on x86 could be 'interesting' to say the least...

Why would you want to simulate a mac, when you've got something far superior like a pc? LOL

Honestly, to what use is this?
I do like mac, becuase Microsoft has that damn monopoly position, but I think the compatibility of mac withy programs and devices isn't that good... Because at least 90% of pc users worldwide use windows....

the major problem would be the intel's little endian format on x86 , which macos doesnt have - thats why it is _not_ possible to run non-x86 proggs on x86 without the source code (for compiling on x86)

Wine is compared to such a project just a small progg - emulating the whole processor architecture is _if possible_ nearly impossible ;-)

Then, you have for convert the whole programm first to the other plattform and first then convert it to the OS and the environment ...

Too bad that apple made non-x86 processors , although their hardware is much more powerful than the PC's one ...
