First holy shit file sharing moment

I just experience my first holy shit awestruck file sharing moment. I've always considered my internet as a mid range package. Just today I downloaded an entire album in under two minutes, Basically it connected and minimized Utorrent and the message box appeared saying the download was done. I've had albums download fast in the past, but never like this, seems over the top. Anyway, what was your first holy shit file sharing moment?

I've had similar experiences on Black Cats when downloading some larger games. I'll set something up for a long-term download, and it finishes in an hour instead of 8.

anyway i'd have to say mine was when i switched from TPB (RIP even tho you were slow as fuck) to my first private tracker (ThePeerHub i think) and got a TV show in 20 minutes instead of two days and still waiting for the shit to hit the fan on that one... (DCRM letters anybody? )

It came last year when I needed a GPS DVD for my car. The dealer gave me a new car with a 2006 map system. I figured ok.... they will surely give me an updated one since the car was a 2008. WRONG!! They wanted $400 for an updated DVD. I was pissed. Then I thought ... let me look online .... and sure enough .... there it was .... hah!

The first holy shit moment for me was probably when I used Napster the first or second time. Watching all those tunes, of my choice, come rolling in, and quite fast even by todays standards. These days I still can't get over any file I see coming in over 2MB/s. It just blows me away.

My first holy shit moment in file sharing was when I used Kazaa for the first time in 2002 back when it was still stable, new and cool and I downloaded a shitty cam of Lord of the rings and watched it with my girl at the time and my good friend. I got the file in about 1 hour when you could get a decent 250k download rates with it even back then.

Before this movies were hard to come by outside of news groups and Kazaa brought it to the everyman along with easy music downloads (virus free back then) and changed it ever since

My first "holy shit" moment came before I was even involved with file sharing. Didn't even have a computer yet. A friend at work kept telling me how wonderful Audiogalaxy was. It can find anything.

Now, I've always been a big fan of Ken Hensley. Ken was the keyboard man for Uriah Heep in the 70's. Ken put out 2 solo albums in the early 70's. These albums were complete commercial failures. Sold about 20 copies between them. But I thought they were awesome!! Now this music was obscure when it was new. Now 30 years later, I told Eric that his wonderful Audiogalaxy would never find that. He came to work the next day with a two page print out of Hensley titles. I still wasn't impressed. I could make a list like that just from memory. He then told me to pick out 15 or so songs. I did, and the following day he handed me a cd. I listened to these songs on the way home from work!! Thought I would cry!! I had thought this music was lost forever!!



Got a computer not long after that, and it was all downhill from there!!

It was crazy. I distinctly recall being able to burn two whole movies onto a single disc because each were about 300MB each. Starting from cam source to encode (which, later personal research showed that it was originally encoded to fit on one CD), then re-encoded into two parts - each 150MB each.

I remember a few of those horrible quality videos having issues like the camera needing to recalibrate the film (recalibrating film was slashed on just after the video froze) which lasted a few minutes. Then there was one where the whole video stopped 20 minutes in with a blue screen, then continued a few minutes befor it left off (I guessed the cammer was caught on that one), another one was where white noise suddenly filled the audio for a minute, then another still where there were shadows of people walking about.

Good grief we watched total crap quality back then in the good old days!

I have or had as I can't find it right now. an old cam of Jay ans Silent Bob strike Back that was from one of those test screenings. It was a bit different than the final version with a different ( all prince) sound track. I really wish I could dig this cam up since its so rare.

I guess my first holyshit sticks moment was when I first switched to cable internet and got my songs in 3 seconds instead of 5 to 10 minutes and photos loaded instantly on pages instead of taking a minute. Anyone recall how slow web pages would load if they had any sort of pics on them? How quickly we forget. Todays websites would take 5 minutes to load up what with all the flashy ads and whatnots. Imagine trying to shop on Ebay with 56k! Every once in a while I still get a dull holyshitfries moment when I get a movie to download at 1.8Megs a second. Getting a few gigs in minutes shows how spoiled I am because its only ho-hum in my book. A local internet provider is offering 25G up and down for cheap. I would like to try that out but super fast internet is mostly useless IMO. I have the fastest service I can buy right now but there is not much out there that will top out my service unless I pay for it and I don't pay for downloads. Paying just to see how fast I can get it is stupid since most of my downloads sit there a week before I have time to foll with them...
