DC++ prob - December 30th, 2002, 06:21 PM

I have regular direct connect and just got the DC++. I like how DC++ search ACTUALLY WORKS, but when I download shns it gives incomplete ones AND names them with a 8 letters after the regular file name. Anyone have a clue what the problem is?

Partially downloaded files get the extra characters , just chop them off the end of the file when it is thru, its not a real problem.

The files should be named properly automatically once they are finished downloading.

I think you're just looking at incomplete files, which DC++ temporarily renames until they're finished.

in dc?

i've never seen that, and i have downloaded thousands of files

if you grab ones with the same name it will ask to overwrite/cancel

i've seen harrypotter1.fug etc, but he's talking about letters, and that i've never seen

yup, it will be like Harry Potterdhdidncb.avi

Happens every time, I thought it was normal, Its never been a problem for me, either they correct themselves at the end like cmyden says, or I just rename them when I am loking for a new source and start the Dl again. No biggy. We may have diff versions of DC++ too

Ok let me give some additional info:

First shns have what's known as a md5 file. It is a summary of a show that will double check to make sure it is the same size and appearance as the guy who ripped it in the first place. Now when I have checked the files I downloaded and I have chopped off the 6 extra digits the md5 file still says ALL of those I downloaded are not the same and are probably errored.

So either:

1) I'm downlaoding from a guy with bad errored versions

2) I download and my files are getting errored when downloading. (problem with my DC++?)

3) I'm getting partial files, not complete ones .

So not sure which one it is. I can always check with a smaller file, say download an mp3 file and see if I still have extra digits in the name or similar problems.

By the way, (this might be a fix ) when i downloaded the DC++ i only downloaded and installed the one program and i had the regular DC installed before. Where there any additional files I need to have BESIDES the program to run it correctly or do i sound ok?? There were other files available on the download site but none were mentioned as being critical to run DC++ .

Question DC++ Question???? - January 21st, 2003, 10:38 PM

Does it make a difference whether you connect to dc++ on active mode?

No.

I think the problem is not DC++, but the user you are downloading from. I have never seen DC++ rename temp files; I have used version 0.181 and am now using 0.22. Direct Connect may rename files, which I'm not sure about, but the user that you are getting the shns from has probably not completed those files and that is why they have the extra characters on the end, and also why you are getting errors with the md5. The easy way to prove this is to check his filelist, and see if the extra characters are there.
