WinMX and my ol' 56k modem -
June 5th, 2002, 07:37 AM
Hello there. I have recently downloaded and clean installed the latest WinMX, uninstalling the previous version. I have a 56k PCMCIA Psion Dacom card laptop modem. I connect to the net at a consistant 50.666 kbps. I can download most files from various sources anywhere regularly at an average of 5.0kb/s. KaZaA often yields d/l's around 4.5kb/s. I have noticed that with WinMX, my downloads never get above 3kb/s at any time of the day or night. As I dont surf whilst I am downloading, what settings should I have in the bandwidth /throttling tabs to improve this. Often a person who downloads from me shows up to 4.7kb/s. I have checked out quite a few FAQ's for the correct settings, but they all seem to refer to faster cable/adsl connections. Many thanks for any advice...cheers Chris
