PlayStation Underground from the 90's - March 2nd, 2009, 09:31 AM

I have done a Google search, but I am about to do so, looking for "PlayStation Underground" which was a subscription based (perhaps a free subscription, I do not 'member ) video magazine with lots of pre release game demo's and some full games that were in house games not ever meant for distribution. I always thought these were cool and each volume had hidden interviews and content. I still have about 10 of these and one even has some 3D glasses but I can't remember what for and I have no way to play these.

Does anyone else remember these mail order disc's and are they worth anything? I will not sell mine as I save all my old video game memorabilia and figure that one day this will be as collected as comic books are today.

I really wish I could play these. Is there anyway to play them on my PC?

EDIT: I may add some scans later if anyone is interested in seeing them.

I Downloaded some PS underground video a long time ago that had MST3K commentary on it. It was pretty funny. That's all I know about PS underground though.

Here's Britney Spears' private jet... The gulf stream 3 doesn't even have a remote control for its surround sound DVD system. Still think downloading music for free isn't a big deal?

Not sure if I have that volume but I did see it on youtube just now LINK.

They would often add bits like that and interview the game makers. Just like a magazine but done like a TV show too. I thought it was awesome because you could watch the video and then play a level of the game to see what they were talking about. I think it came out every three months.

It would be nice to be able to get this content posted on the net so people could see some of the history of Sony video games and how much effort they put into capturing the market back then. Sony totally trounced Sega with great creative games and marketing. Seems they have all but forgot how they got there to begin with....and its costing them dearly.

They're just PSX game discs, play them in a ps1 emulator.

I highly recommend ePSXe 1.7.0

The emulator above is the most stable PSX emulator I have ever come across.

And I remember Playstation Underground. I thought that was the coolest shit ever. I don't think I have any left from that time. How sad! That was a part of my childhood.

I have a PS EMU but will the discs work if I put them in the PC? One way to fund out I guess.

A better question is how to get my PC to play them.

You just need a regular old cdrom drive to play them. Put them in, load the emulator, and run the game.

There is probably some basic mouse/keyboard support, but you'll be better off with a Logitech RumblePad 2 (corded or cordless).

Inside booklet. They would include clues on and in each volume that would unlock secret content.

I have tried to play the STR movie files with PSXplay and it keeps crashing. I will keep trying until I find a way to rip these files off the disc and share them.

They should, PSX games were just colored CD's, think they colored them to make up for the crappy laser. The lasers were the biggest pain in the ass when trying to run burnt games, you had to select the right discs otherwise they would not read properly.

Anyway, I still have one of those psx underground discs lying around. One of the few discs for my playstation that was not pirated.

EDIT @ MountRage - It does recognize it but you just need the right software to convert it to a playble format which is what was in those Japanese links posted above. Most of the Playstation content is in STR format.

@ Malakai1911 - Yeah! It worked! I still have to figure out how to get it converted to watchable avi but I don't think its going to be a problem. Thanks so much. How you found that program is beyond me. Took a little bit to find exactly what I needed there but its up and playing now. Can you tell I am excited? lol I havent seen this content in over 10 years so its cool to me.
