bad connection? - May 30th, 2002, 05:41 PM

I'm connected to winmx through the primary connection, when other try to download from me, winmx wont let anyone download more than about 30kbps. I allow about 4 user to download at once and each person is only downloading about 6 or 7 kbps each. Ive tried messing with the bandwith throttle and i got it set on umlimited for incoming and outgoing bandwith but no change in performance. Does anyone have a clue to what the problem maybe.? I appreciate all who respond and any help that can be given. thanks.

When you're on the primary connection, some of your bandwidth is reserved to supporting WPNP, so you have less left over to use for file exchanges. You could minimize the bandwidth allocated to WPNP by going to settings-->WinMX Peer Network and set your allocated bandwidth to the lowest value.

i done that and it went up to 30kbps just as i said initially. I traded with the guy and i felt bad when he only could get like 3.82 kbps or so and i was getting like 15kbps from him. He questioned me about having a cap on my upload speed. I have no cap on it. I dont know whats wrong. I guess there is nothing that can be done. I was downloading between 68 and 82 kbps from this one guy on cable connection but my upload wont let anyone download that fast from me and i'm on cable connection as well. I think i give up.

Cable connections don't give you constant speeds, and vary according to how many others are using it. I'm on ADSL and my highest uploading speed is 10 KB a second, which is pretty slow. On top of that I'm running an OpenNap server with 200 users, so I limit my uploading at WinMX to 5 KB a second, to leave bandwidth for the server and the internet. But I make up for my slow connection by being connected for long periods of time, to pay my dues to the file sharing community.

I use this freeware program to monitor my bandwidth:
