eMule automatically switching servers?! - December 8th, 2002, 09:15 AM

I'm new to the eDonkey network, but a veteran of Direct Connect.

I'm finding that eMule is finding many more hits for the things I'm searching for (Mainly videos). One thing that is frusterating me however, is that when I connect to a "good" server and take my eye off it for a minute, eMule automatically is switching to a random alternative server, that usually ends up being shitty.

anyone know the solution?

PS. What do the colored bars represent in the transfer tab? It looks like the file is being segmented?

also, you guys weren't lieing, this program is slow as shit, do you find that you get the best speeds when using the "Wizard" to set your connections, under preferences?

Thanks!

not sure about the server problem, same thing happens constantly to me.
the colours on the bar represent part of the file you have downloaded/ whats available on the network to be downloaded/ what parts arent available etc etc

I'd refer you to http://www.emule-project.net/en/portal.php , but its buggered

emule isnt slow for me, ive been downloading all weekend, averaging at about 40K on a 512k dsl connection. sometimes it takes 30 minutes or so to get up to speed.

no matter where you are connected you can still search the whole network so that is no problem.

not quite sure i agree with you on that one. some servers give 100s of sources for each file, and other give around 1 to 20.

Just remember to save those servers ranked "High" to you Static Servers list, once you have lots of them every time you use eMule, it will help you get connected to good servers often!

The reason why the download is segmented becuse on any p2p program where you download form more than one person then you download peaces from more than one person in segments like that. What It dose is splits up the download depending on how fast that person is( the faster the sorce the bigger the peace they upload to you) so when you download form 20 ppl then you are downloading 20 different peaces form 20 different people. It is just shoing what segments you have. The next step is allowing you to share thoughs segments that you have with outer people even if you don't have the entrie file. I don't think any p2p app have done it thou which is relay too bad it would help p2p out a lot. beucase you could be downloading a file and someone could be downlaoding the same file from you it would cut down on quing a lot. (you would almost never see remote que in kazaa)
