I would like to say I fully believe in an even swap variety of sharing. Not sharing and uploading your fair "share" is simple greed and should be something that a person rejects... not embraces and spreads it around.

I just hope that the old timers for DC dont ditch ship with more and more f*cking piece of sh*t c*cksmokes coming in and making things hard for them and everyone else.

And if they do ... and they know of something better... they will at least do me the favor of eMailing me which prog it is, hehehe. ;)

And for the fakers ... go back to Morpheus and WinMX, punks.

DC used to be a fav of mine, despite my very small share size (less then 5gigs). But as of late, every time I connect to a hub, I find leechers pulling 400 meg files from me at 200 kb/s. Browse their files to see if I can pull anything good down their fat pipe, and it's nothing but windows folders and program folders, and other sharefaking crap. Am I the last honest guy who respects the gig limits and limits my share declaration to my share folder? Should I turn to the dark side and start sharing my installed programs just to see what is in the 5 gig hubs? Should I just start raiding these bastards for quicken/money or other goodies to post on bbs's? If anybody could point me to a hub where people actually SHARE anymore, I'd much appreciate it (probably doesn't exist unless you're packing 100 gigs to share anymore).

heh no pretty much every hub has fallen victim to the fakers and installed windows ect crap, there's just too many of them to stop now. In my most honest opinion the only place on dc to find a hub with virtually no crap or fakers is in the private hubs that you'll only find if you know they're there, when you've only got a few hundred people coming around it's a lot easier to get a good group of sharers together.

DC is still the best P2P I know of, despite the increasing number of BS users out there.

The increased number of f*ckers out there on our DC prog is a direct result of the lost masses running away from the collapsing giants of KaZaA, Morpheus, and other dying share apps. You know it is, but there is nothing we can do... expect maybe make sure that the private hubs are kept private and the "hub-runners" carefully filter those people joining up with their hubs to make sure they are on the up-and-up.

Which makes it more liek a job than a hobby or enthusiast thing to do.

Well *raises a Cherry Coke* ... here is to the good luck of the private hubs, the only remaining safe havens for true, responible P2P sharing on DC.

No offense but i think that problems with "fakers and leechers" is a DC problem.. Did you know that if you shared a folder with tons of files and after dc scans it if you go in explorer and rename that folder then DC still counts it as shared even though no one can download anything.

The DC protocol is weak which is why you cant use characters like a $ in it.. FYI a | charater in a persons name will crash an entire hub..

DC cant really make any improvements to it.. Considering its been an extreemely long time since there has been a release.

Also most of the files that DC brags about being avaible the average users will never have access to ill estimate over half of them because they meet the hub restrictions or they dont stay on the hub for many hours a day.. Which is probably why so many people do fake or leech.

Hmm, the fakers problem might indeed be a DC only problem, but that's probably because DC requires you to announce a share size. And then hubs use that share declaration to set entrance limits. These same people would be just be lumped into the leeches catagory that plagues FastTrack or WinMX. And you're probably right, they're just refugees from FastTrack, WinMX, or any other p2p looking for the fastest best way to leech.
Sadly, it does seem that private hubs might be the only meaningful way for one to use DC. But then I don't really see the difference between DC and FTP then. Even sadder for me, I'm not l33t enough to gain access to private hubs in either.
It would really help if there were improvements in the DC client to fight the leechers. Even simple things like scanning to see if the windows folder were shared. I'd say opensource would be the way to go, but that seems to have resulted only in a better tool for the leechers (that is why DC++ is so frowned upon, yes?).
Oh well, back to kazaaLite for me I guess.

hi,

i understand the principle of the whole sharing thing, but some people dont have the luxery all the time. i, myself love direct connect and use it frequently, but cant afford to share at all times.

i come from a little municipality and my ISP is very small. i am limited to 4GB download and 1GB upload per month on a cable line. so you see, if i need to d/l a large file, i might leave it running all night. you can imagine how much upload bandwidth i could possibly give out. i think i pay $2 per every extra 0.1GB i use up. ive had a monthly bill of $140. that truley sucks!

if someone needs to d/l some files from me, i dont mind, but i monitor what they are taking and limit them to so much.

i dont know exactly what classification i qualify for, but i do see that most users now are indeed "fakers". i know how upset most people are becoming. just dont judge all people because there are some legitimate reasons out there.

in regards to all the people abusing it, i hope they will consider that one day it will all go sour and eventually direct connect will die. please, "dont ruin a good thing". have some respect.

yeah i feel that bandwidth should be with the monthly payment you pay. There shouldn't be a limit on how much you use. Since you pay your ISP for their service each month, the bandwidth you download should be payed for in the monthly price, and shouldnt change it. I know mine doesnt charge extra, i just think that is a stupid thing.

I am on it all the time and have real files to share. However, I am not on cable and have dsl, so I know my speeds are lower than some of my fellow hub members. Plus I have a 2 hour surf window and am constantly having to log and relog on.

If people DON'T take advantage of your collection than you aren't a leecher. A leecher goes out of his way to make sure that people can't download anything from him. i just get tired of all the leech talk from everybody when there is a lot of good collections getting ignored by downloaders. If someone gets a better speed from being one of 4 or 8 slots off a cable or T1 connection than my little dsl than I am not going to complain and I hope others won't.

I agree that the fake files thing is rather crappy to do but many hub owners are also going the other way banning people over piddly stuff (shn hubs banning mp3 owners). There will always be people doing stupid stuff on both ends. We will jsut have to deal with it and figure ways around ongoing REAL problems.

These 20Gig limit hubs are a pain! Mine is only 16G anyway and I still can only allow about 4G before my cup runneth over. :devil

I have a no limit cable and a 100gb share. I stay connected to 3 hubs 24/7 which have a share limit of 50gb/70gb/100gb. I can not even come close to exhausting the available files (between all 3 there's +100TB to choose from), I find everything I want.

The share limits motivated me to buy another 80gb drive and xfer lots of video onto it. That is the most positive thing I see for a P2P app, making the rules motivate users to share more.

As for leeching, the share limits and hub scripts do a pretty good job of filtering out the riff raff methinks.

BTW, a couple high share limit groups are Friends and MaximumSpeed hubs.

well i havn't been using DC for a while now... since my HDD crashed, all my 'wanted' files are gone and i only have 6 gigs to spare. because of that, id rather not be a pain to peeps on DC, and stay away. but when i get my replacement drive, im gonna rip all my games and progs and movies to it and share again. :)

btw, notbob, you have a hub right? would you ever consider making it like a zeropaid hub? and you could password protect it and let only 'worthy' sharers in? i'd do it, but i cant keep my pc on 24/7 and im only on cable, tho it is pretty fast...

they fixed that bug in DC++ 2.1 (2.11 now) and plenty of people stay on for days at a time. DC is the best thing we have aganst leachers and it is the most leach free network to date. True the laching is getting worse and worse on DC hubs and true you can't "swarm" downloads but who cares there are so many great files on DC and there are so many high speed users that it realy make up for its fults.

[there should be a way that a user on a hub can mark a leacher and then the person running the hub can perminitly mark that person so no matter what hub there person gets on he will be a sertin color or somthing and some then some one has to look at the files that person has making shure they are not fake. (if he has a stadic ip, yeah true there are proxies and yeah all hubs whould have to communicate (which I think they should if you read my eDonkey meet DC thred) but still somthing has to be done!]
