I Hate Jewel Cases - May 27th, 2002, 07:06 AM

But what are the options? Paper sleeves, file notebooks or just a stack of cd's with no protection. The little thin ones look ok but when you mix them in with regular sized jewel cases they pretty much dissappear. So the question is;
what is the ZP way of filing burned cd's? :shoot

I still hate those little plastic boxes. The little tabs break. You can scrach them with a feather. They group together like a big lump of plastic. If you have tried the thin ones they just disappear in the forest of nothing.

I dont use little or big jewel cases. I put all my burnt CD's into plastic sleeves made by LaserLine. I love them, and everybody to whom I give them thinks they're wonderful. Look at a really small/poor picture here.

I intend to live forever. So far so good.

red velvet - June 19th, 2002, 08:35 PM

anyone actually tryed the red velvet case that is listed in the new hardware section? I kind of like the steel case that CDProjects uses. Anything with big zippers kind of gives me the willies. Do you guys just stack up your ink smeared CD?

Cool jewel cases - June 29th, 2002, 08:41 PM

Hey.....

I like to use folders, the only problem I got is finding ones that are made to last. caselogic suck. The only thing I use jewel cases for is when I give out disc's to people. That way they are out of my hair.

zippers - July 8th, 2002, 09:12 PM

how stupid is it to put zippers on a cd case? My ultimate case would not have zippers. maybe some kind of hinge or at least velcro. The more I use them the steel boxes from cdprojects might be my answer. they use some kind of bubble sleeve that doesn't create any fricton. Still no news about the red velvet case. I have not seen these for sale anywhere.
I saw a table made out of jewel boxes once.
That is a good use for these things.

If you do get a case with removable sleeves, make sure its not the kind where the part of the sleeve that clips into the book wears easily. You can sorta see the wear on the sleeve attachment thingy, and this is a sleeve i've been using for about three to four weeks now, within a few months I bet the plastic will be torn off, because (you can't see this) but the attachment part has these little black grooves that make the things incredibly easy to tear.

The CDprojects line uses them and while the cases are very sturdy and good the sleeves are crap and not worth the investment, unless you use them to store CD's you never listen to anymore.

I use caselogic for BURNED CDs, because the cases themselves are cheap enough and they'll last for a while until I need a new one. If they get scratched, so what, there are always more blank CD-Rs.

I like slim jewel cases - July 28th, 2002, 07:44 PM

While the big jewel cases are awkward and break often, I rather like the slim ones that have been around for quite a while for stuff like singles (paying way too much for one song...) but are now becoming more popular.

Yes they break, but they are cheap to replace, and considering how my CDs get treated by the other people in my house, I consider them actually quite durable...

I too hate Jewel Cases.. They take up far too much space. I just take a piece of 8.5" x 11" paper.. I go to www.allmusic.com and locate the CD I want. Clip the songs and print it out. Fold the paper, make two cuts, fold again and tape. The Cds fit perfect and take up little space. At Target I bought a few Sterilite 17qt containers. I can fit two rows of CDs, about 600 in each container...
