Question Local Private Trackers - December 19th, 2006, 01:50 AM

Hello, I'm new here, and new to torrents after being so loyal to Gnutella, but all the media reports and forums online about the popularity and speeds of Bittorrent have become impossible to ignore...

I have tried out many Bittorrent clients over time but with no success, and never liked the way it works, having to search for files in an internet browser and 'seed' files....as opposed to old school p2p programs, where you just install, search, and download...its that easy.

So now I'm tryin hard to make this Bittorent work properly, and see what all the fuss is about.

What I have done/learnt so far:

1) Installed uTorrent
2) Finally figured out 'porting', and getting a green tick in uTorrent/port fowarded correctly
3) I know to prefer downloading off trackers with as many 'seeds' as possible, and as little 'leechers'
4) I know to allow uploads as much as possible to improve my 'share ratio'....so when finsihed my download, will leave runnin to improve, as at the moment it a miserly 0.469
5) I know private trackers are better/faster than public...

Now the best download speed I have recieved so far is 80kB, but tend to average 10kB.....
Thats nothing impressive, although that is knowingly a public tracker with not many seeds (9-11)

So my question is this:

1) How do you get these 'invites' to the best torrent tracker sites?
2) And are there torrent tracker sites that specialize in local torrents? (national)

I'm guessin if I was to download from a private tracker in my home country, I would get super maxi speeds yes?

3) That being the case, does anyone know of any private New Zealand torrent tracker sites?
4) And can anyone give me an invite?
