it doesnt really matter which is best, use whichever one you want. there is virtually zero difference, if any at all, in the speed which emule and edonkey dowloads files

hm... - October 26th, 2002, 01:19 PM

don't they all use the same network, and basically all run the same? so i don't believe it makes a difference which one is better since there all practically the same.

emule and edonkey are on the same network...although in my experience, emule has been faster, and over net is on a different, decentralized network.

I also use eMule, and I also think it's faster. I read somewhere it refuses connections from people with a bot. That's very good:)

I use eMule, because it has no ads and is faster, for me anyways, but overnet is another story, its the fastest for me, but when im done with it and all, it still hammers my IP, and until i disconnect and reconnect to my DSL (dynamic thank god) then it will continue to hammer and I wont be able to play any games, or even surf ZP.

My current setup stats (like anyone cares...):

ASUS A8N32-SLI Motherboard
AMD 4400+ Dual-Core CPU
Windows Vista (Ultimate 32bit)
2 GB (2x1GB) Corsair XMS RAM
2x250 GB (in RAID 0) HDDs
EVGA GeForce 7950 GTX 512 MB
Creative X-FI Fatal1ty XtremeGamer

Also sporting a black MacBook
Revision/Release 1
Upgraded to 2GB RAM.

overnet's buggy as hell. edonkey's no longer being developed. emule's f.ucking awesome. constant updates and bug fixes.

in defense of edonkey...it's development will continue after overnet has stabilized...says that somewhere on the edonkey site. but yes, emule rocks.

emule - October 30th, 2002, 03:26 PM

I began using emule, actually almost forced to.
edonkey began crashing on me and had never had problems before. But I tend to think it might be the ads it was using. I noticed a lot more lately including cydoor. Crashed like 7 times each days, last few days and just gave up on it. Could not leave it unattended at all.
Well it looks ok and it's not crashing. So cool !
It does seem a bit faster, not much. But no ads and no crashing is all I needed. :-)

Has anyone checked out the modified versions of emule. I am using eMule V0.21b herbert v1 (based on Xmod v1)
and it is very nice indeed. :-)

Peace!

Hey. Just a quick question. Does eMule support SOCKS 4 or SOCKS 5??? When I first tried eMule, I didn't find any config for those, so I gave up on using it. (I'm behind firewall, and I need the program to use SOCKS.) My eDonkey has been crashing a lot lately too, and believe it or not, there are many other users with the same problem. If you go check www.edonkey2000.com at their forum, you can find all sorts of possible solutions, but none of them are 100% guaranteed to fix the problem. Nevertheless, they have done all sorts of analysis for this, and it's helpful to read what people have to say about it.

Golden Tequila - October 31st, 2002, 07:13 PM

Hey I just noticed after you mentioned it, yeah I don't see socks support in emule, but their is hope.
Go to the emule forum and their is a section where people are submitting modified versions of emule.
I suggest you ask someone to impliment that feature and I am sure others would want it as well.
As mentioned I am using a modified version and it is running very nicely, no crashes at all now.

I had not been on edonkey forum, can you mention briefly what you learned about the crashing Golden Tequila or anyone who knows?
As far a a gaurenteed solution well...switching to emule did it for me!

peace!

Hi, Rickio. Thanks for your suggestion. I think I'll try that and see if anybody can give me SOCKS supporting eMule. As far as possible/temporary solutions I've found on eDonkey2000 forum.

1, In case the problem is caused by a certain java feature required to process some of the pop-ups, install additional something for java. (sorry, I don't remember what it was. I didn't try this)

2, After you uninstall eDonkey, clean up your computer, and restart it, install eDonkey. And, then, change the compatibility to "run as WinNT/SP5" This seems to work for a while (a week?).

3, Some people just delete know.met file, and it seems to delay the crash.

4, Some claims it's caused by corrupted files, so they try to delete ones that may be causing the crash. (I persobally think this is NOT the problem.)

I tried to relocate the thread so I could paste a link here, but I couldn't find it anywhere this time for some reason. (it might have been closed because it was just going around people restating the same things over and over...)

Again, thanks for your suggestion.
