i like how they are trying to equate song downloading with drug trafficing. but the moment "song" hits your ears it just loses all chance at being serious. maybe if they went with "piracy pusher" or somthing like that maybe you could take them a little more seriously. I just think that the more daft titles the come up with, the more they are alienating themselves from the public. (aka they're customers).

I remember when the first RIO Mp3 player came out and they (RIAA etc) clambered together to try and get it banned! Hardly embracing a new technology.

Now they're caught on the hop, kicking and screaming into the 21st century. The record labels -missed- an awesome opportunity to distribute music with almost zero distribution costs. Instead they offer shitty 128kbp AAC files with no flexibility, and want to put the price up again!

You cannot compete with free. Especially as "free" music on the internet means no restrictions as to what you do with it, delivered at a bit rate of the "songlifter's" choosing.

Offering 128kbp AAC tracks with no felxibility is frankly laughable and why I'd never buy music from itunes.

It is all a form of pyschological intimidation. Notice after 911 terrorism changed to terror.

Piracy is and interesting word. In america piracy was called whacking before the british term was adopted.

I still think the industry is going to go down in flames, over most of humanity we did not have recorded music. Now we have ubiquidous recorded music and video. So, the high dollar amounts people payed for music when music was scarce was a value.

Technology makes music and mass amounts of music valueless.

Cd's will still be produced, and a few acts will make a living, but the market and wealth that was generated in copies of recorded music will likely not be repeated.

If you look at all of the deals made with p2p companies, they restrict the content that can be played on the p2p networks.

Piracy is not as serious of a problem as is ubiquidy of content. So scream about how piracy is distroying your markets and thousands of jobs will be lost (The Disney Approach to Copyright) so you can gain additional protections.

So 10 years of web media and p2p clients still not interoperable, or mandated to play universally. Basically, this means if corporation A creates or buys a P2P company. You have to download it's system that does not play with third party content.

By using the "chicken little piracy strategy" the big 5 can maintain market superiority without having the law changed to mandate that the systems be interoperable and carry third parity content.

Broadcasters screamed when the cable monopoly were rebroadcasting signals from a central location called a "head in". The resulting law was must carry.

I object to the broadcast flag to prevent copying. I think EVERY program should be able to be recorded and played back on ANY machine.

What I want is a broadcast flag that would flag content (programs) so they can not be edited. So if I produce "Bunny Bear goes to Camp" for kids, I want to know that some p2p network is not changing the content of the program and inserting adult material or modifing the program.

"Bunny Bear goes to Camp" if it was modified would not be a serious problem, modifying a lecture or a video and re-inserting it back into the network could be deadly. For example a video on how to drive might be altered to tell people green light means stop, red light means go. Most people in USA know that is not true, but if the video is downloaded by a soon to be visiting tourist from asia, it might be deadly. A no modify flag is more important than do not copy flag.

No modify flag does conflict with fair use, but that could be solved by requiring programs that are modified to add [fair use] in the title. I do not want to prevent people from reusing my content, but I want to make sure that the program is not modified when it is on p2p networks, and if it is modified it is tagged fair use.

SONGPUSHER is the best message for the older generation. IF we can get the old hacks in congress to wake up and solve the serious wealth inequity problem we have here in america, then we need to tell the elite to change or we revolt.
