Hacker takes out Russian TV station - December 14th, 2005, 09:55 AM

THE KREMLIN'S 'good news' English language TV station has been shut down by a hacker.

The station, Russia Today, is designed to show a more positive Russia and balance what it considers an anti-Putin slant in the foreign press. As if.

Just before the hacker shut it down, the station was running wonderful stories about a new parliament in Chechnya and changes to the Russian constitution.

Apparently, the screen froze several times, and at least one news item was played out of sequence.

Margarita Simonyan, the channel's editor-in-chief, told Interfax news agency that there was an "invasion" of the computer system followed by an occupation of a byte or too, and then a sudden rash of viruses.

The station has not been seen since, so all the English speaking world is starting to feel negative about Putin's Russia again. If it is his Mother Russia, of course.
