Question Problems with router - May 15th, 2002, 11:34 AM

I downloaded the new version of WINMX yesterday and suddenly havd problems getting uploads and downloads to work. I have a cable router that did not block anything with ver 2.6. Now it seems that it is blocking everything. I uninstalled 3.1 and reinstalled 2.6 and am still experiencing the same problems. I cannot even get to the people that I have been able to download from in the past. It keeps timing out. I don't know how to set the router and have looked in the ppwk that came with it (Linksys). There is no way to turn off the built in firewall that comes with the router. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do to be able to share my music with everyone again? This is getting frustrating. BTW - I also have WINXP Pro. I don't know if that could be the problem as well. Thanks.

Did you map ports through router firewall when you your 2.6 was working? I would check your router settings (same place set your IP's for local network) and check see if the port numbers that wimx needs (look in winmx settings) is mapped through the router hardware firewall. After you do that reboot the router.

PS. try rebooting the router first, your ports tend clogg with too much use. rebooting clears them.

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".

Thanks for the info. I did not map anything with my router when I was using 2.6. My cable modem has been dropping me a lot lately so I have had to reboot the modem and router on a daily basis but it has been behaving the last three days. I will try rebooting it tonight when I get home to see if that helps. :;)
