today i was bored and checked out the hompage of my cable internet provider..i was shocked when i found this and i quote
"IMPORTANT NOTICE TO INTERNET CUSTOMERS WHO SHARE MUSIC, SOFTWARE AND MOVIE FILES If you share music, software or movie files or other copyrighted material through your Cable One Internet connection, you risk interruption and possible disconnection of your Cable One Internet account. Cable One is receiving numerous complaints from copyright owners alleging copyright infringement by users. If Cable One is notified that you are illegally sharing files using your Internet connection, Cable One will prevent your access to the Internet. If you are storing content on our servers that another claims infringes their copyrights, Cable One will remove the content from our servers. In order to restore your Internet access, you will need to fax or send Cable One a written response. You will find instructions on how to respond at http://help.cableone.net/cable/dmca.aspx. this personally enrages me. if anyone has cablone i would be happy to hear whether or not your still sharing or if your connection has been disconnected?..thanks for any and all answers |

As spokesperson for Cable One, I regret to inform you that the way in which you just quoted the site is an infringement on our site's coryright.
We will be at your house tomorrow. Between 8 am and 10 pm. The next time someone quotes statistics to you remember that 90% of the participants in a gang rape find it enjoyable. |

Couldn't resist.
edit "I thought quoting such a wide window of time would assure you of the legitimacy of the threat, it is cable right?" The notice doesn't look too threatening to me, I think they are just covering their butts. All I would point out is to avoid storing anything on their servers. The rest is standard. Most providers will cut your service if someone tells them that you are using it for filetrading. If you read closely though, they say right in their letter that getting back on-line only requires a fax or written letter. Just saving themselves from lawsuits.
