A permanent node - December 20th, 2004, 11:55 PM

Hi there,

Trying freeenet for a week now (latest updated version).
The program downloaded about 1,5 gig of information
but the download speed is not very high.

I heard something about becoming a permanent node.....
That way you help to support the freenet by giving some of
your upload speed. My question is; how do u do that??
It would increase the speed enormous cause of your node learns to know a lot
of other node's.
When i just let the program run none of my upload speed is used,
the program only seems to be downloading something into the "store" map.

Can anyone please tell me how to become a permanent node and change my
computer in some sort of freenet server?

Freenet is slow.

Make sure your freenet node can receive incoming connections.
If you use a firewall then check it is configured correctly.
If you have a connection sharing system you need to configure port forwarding
and possibly specify or internet ip, not sure if they have got proper NAT
support working yet.

Check the speed limits in the frenet.ini file.

Got at least a 1GHz cpu and 256MB RAM?

I think being a permanent node means you leave the program running all the time.
