I Do Not Know... - September 14th, 2002, 06:11 AM

... I choose to live and die with Windows 2000 Professional because of its incredible stability (I leave it on for DAYS, and it does NOT freeze). Also, it is the easiest to just download and install (HA). If anyone else can give me reasons why I should upgrade as well, I will gladly do it. However, I doubt it due to the security holes in XP that are so big they are HISTORICAL.

Yeah, security holes are my biggest worry about Windows XP. I think it's kind of about weighing the features and relevance of XP against the safety and no BS-factor of 2000 Pro. Hmm, decisions, decisions.

Well I use XP Pro myself, and it also does not crash ever, the only reason I ever restart it is because of constant updates to my home network, and I also enjoy the fresh look.

My current setup stats (like anyone cares...):

ASUS A8N32-SLI Motherboard
AMD 4400+ Dual-Core CPU
Windows Vista (Ultimate 32bit)
2 GB (2x1GB) Corsair XMS RAM
2x250 GB (in RAID 0) HDDs
EVGA GeForce 7950 GTX 512 MB
Creative X-FI Fatal1ty XtremeGamer

Also sporting a black MacBook
Revision/Release 1
Upgraded to 2GB RAM.

Thumbs up xp - September 18th, 2002, 07:17 PM

:devil The only real difference between the 2 is that xp has its dos emulator in it to run programs that are not xp compatible which makes a difference with some files and no difference in others but puts xp 1 step ahead of 2000 IMO

I've had win2k pro win2k family server, an windows xp home, and windows xp pro. I would use winxp. because win2k is really good, but lots of uncompatible stuff out there.. like games, and maybe software.. winxp is more common and more stuff is going to be compatible. and winxp has only crashed on me once.. it is very stable for me!

I don't remember 98 being so stable. That's probably because my old comp. was by eMachines, and had a Celeron processor... and 32 MB of RAM.

I use WindowBlinds, so I'm not very concerned with the GUI. Although, it does look like it works better with XP.

xp is more stable - September 19th, 2002, 06:22 AM

but you're buying in to Microsoft's security scheme, which may be a consideration. I run XP on my laptop, 2000 on my desktop (plus MacOS on my other computers).
