I would have done the same things you did - September 10th, 2002, 01:13 PM

I would have tried switching it off in BIOS and then just removing it, too. Try the boot sequence in BIOS - maybe this will work C: D: A: or whatever. If not Maybe open it up, and remove the obstruction?

Sorry I can't be of much help.

do you get any error message on bootup? - September 10th, 2002, 01:29 PM

what does it say? if the bios wont disable it Im not sure changing the sequence could help, it depends on why it wont boot. either way, getting a new drive should help. and they are cheap. gateways and most other retail pc's are weird. I know that gateway has motherboards made specifically for them, the one gateway I have cant even take any other chips except chips licensed to gateway. Its good for the pc retailer sure because these chips are more expensive, but bad for the consumer as this restricts whatyou can do with what you bought for your hard earned cash.

yeah, hes gonna need to buy a new drive - September 10th, 2002, 01:40 PM

though I would try changing the boot order first as well. it might work. but then also, unless thats just a standard generic message, he might actually need to repair something on the hard drive as well. thats what you usually need a boot disk for anyways. ok. what was the situation that caused him to stick something into his floppy drive? was there something wrong with the pc and he got upset? if so... fixing the floppy is just the beginning of his problems
