GTA: San Andreas - October 17th, 2004, 11:38 PM

p2pnet.net News:- Take-Two Interactive Software, owner of the odious Manhunt banned in New Zealand and which sparked the adoption of new video and CD buying and rental rules in Canada, recently announced a partnership with one of the members of the Big Four record label cartel that's currently suing p2p users around the world.

Rockstar Games, Take-Two's publisher, and Interscope Records, owned by France's Universal Music Group (UMG), have a joint venture for the soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, due for release on October 25.

PlayStation2 is, of course, owned by another member of the sue 'em all cartel - Sony. The others are BMG (Sony-BMG, Japan, Germany), Warner Music (USA) and EMI (UK).

Sen. Clinton seeks 'Grand Theft' sex scene probe - July 14th, 2005, 08:18 PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Sen. Hillary Clinton pressed on Thursday for a government investigation into how simulated sex cropped up in a modified version of the blockbuster criminal adventure video game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas."

Clinton asked the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to investigate the origins of a downloadable modification that allows simulated sex in the personal computer version of one of the most popular and controversial video games in history.

"We should all be deeply disturbed that a game which now permits the simulation of lewd sexual acts in an interactive format with highly realistic graphics has fallen into the hands of young people across the country," Clinton wrote in a letter to the head of the Federal Trade Commission.

This whole 'hot coffee' mod issue is the most retarded thing I've ever heard. Sex is a natural thing, somthing that nearly every human to ever live has participated in. It is not against the law (save for a few circumstances involving age/consent/money). On the other hand, murder is illegal in virtually all circumstances, and is not natural. Most humans do not participate in this act. However, our lawmakers seem to have an issue with that which is perfectly normal - even though it is much more socially acceptable than murder - a common plot element in hundereds of video games.

What makes this worse is that this 'hot coffee' mod is not all that explicit. If my understanding is correct, no real nudity takes place, and obscenity is kept to a minimum. Meanwhile, games involving killing, including SA, are much more explicit and graphic.

I just don't understand the reasoning behind the issues at hand. Why go after the relatively insignificant features of a game, when there are more pressing issues at hand? Actually, why go after a video game like this in the first place? The game is clearly given a 'M' rating, meaning 17 and older. If you are a 17 year old, and watching pixelated softcore CG porn is going to cause you problems, playing any other feature in SA is really going to screw you up.

I third that!

But, seriously, minors aren't supposed to be playing San Andreas anyway - and, even if they do, to unlock this, they have to install a mod. And, if they have internet access, why would they waste their time downloading a mod when they could just download the real thing?! Oops - I'm using logic again...
