New Referencefile for Ad-Aware "With this update, FlashTrack and NetRadar detection has been added to the referencefile. The release number is 016-16-05-02." Download it from Lavasoft or if you have RefUpdate installed you can update that way. If you don't have RefUpdate I would recommend downloading it. It's small, free and makes keeping Ad-Aware's reference files current a lot easier. |

Ad-Aware is the best adware scanner there is,
Users should also get and use a "good" trojan scanner as well esp. if you use a "crack" on any software you download, then again the trojan can be inserted into "any" EXE file, I know this from past experience and just want to alert any New users out there who are just starting out so they might not have the same problems. A friend of mine asked me to come over and look at his computer. He experienced slow performance and other problems. I ran the updated version of Ad-Aware 5.83 and it found 183 occurances of spyware/adware/etc! Is that a record? Ad-aware rocks! :sw |

Before the Ad-aware Forums went down 2 weeks ago for repairs, there was alot of talk about this.
Adwatch only detects a cookie, it dosn't block them. You need a program like CookieWall, it is Free and it works great. CookieWall |

What is the difference then between Adaware and Adaware Plus?
As for the cookie sentinels, of which I'm aware, my understanding is that yes I can load a cookie sentinel up, but then I'd only have a headache getting around on the net. I don't see how you can block cookies and not be constantly tripped up all the time. I've got a lot of discussion forums, for example. They use cookies. True, I could still get in and do my thing, but not as smoothly. I'm not sure the trouble would be worth it. The trouble I take to get rid of unwanted cookies that Adaware finds is probably less. Hopefully cookies don't cause problems for my computer for the short time they're on it, before I remove them. Regardless, Thanks for the comment and info. |

Actually, I downloaded/ installed Cookie Wall right after I posted my previous post. I like it. But I have no idea what to do with the majority of cookies that the prog shows me. Obviously I got rid of anything with 'sex' in it. (I like naked women. What can I say?) And I left (mostly in 'temp' but a few in 'never remove' or whatever) what seemed safe, namely stuff from sites like Lavasoft, Wilders and forums and other sites I visit. A lot of stuff I could only guess at.
Cookie Wall is a great prog, clearly, but it's utility is considerably less for those like myself who don't know by sight exactly what every cookie presented means. I'm new to the prog, so perhaps I will find more info on it that I can read. But that won't help if it's all techie jargon, which is usually the case with this stuff. Later... |
