Do you think the Recording Industry Association of American (RIAA) truly represents musicians in their battle against file-sharing?

:devil Like any union they do with some and don't with others. My gut tells me that the majority of established (ie rich) artists are so entrenched in their roles as superstars, they don't mind having an entity like the RIAA to look after their concerns even if it costs them a good share of their profits. Now with new and struggling artists, the need for the RIAA just isn't there. Plus a lot of these guys sell their albums out of their cars and at gigs just trying to get their name in the public eye and most of them see P2P as a good way to distribute their wares. The RIAA is a tool for the rich and a burden for the poor. Just like most things in this world unfortunately.

like with the baseball union, they are looking out not for everyone, but for the richest one percent.

the baseball union isnt looking out for the 8 year utility backup infielder making 850,000 a year. they're looking out for A-Rod.

in the same way, the RIAA isn't looking out for the independent-label artist who hits the Billboard heatseeker chart but can't track the Top 200. They're looking out for Mariah Carey.
