:mellow Hi Yang, what are you using for a processor. Also the make of the motherboard might help these folks. Also what version of the bios for the motherboard, and if needed are you comfortable with flashing your bios?:mellow

I'd say if you notice that your CPU Usage is increasing over time, you could be running program with a memory leak. Generally, even if your PC has been on for a while and is using a fair amoutn of CPU, you can bring the CPU utilization level down to 0% by closing some or all of your programs.

Go through your programs (CTRL-ALT-DEL will bring up the list) 1 by 1, noting the CPU Usage level before and after closing each program. When you find that closing one program cause a dramatic drop in the Usage level, try using your computer for a while without that program running. If the level remains low, you know that there's something wrong with the program you singled out - which means you should try reinstalling it or finding a different application to replace it.

Thanks to you all who are trying to help me with this. I am not at my own computer now and will get the prossesor version and mother bourd specs asap. I also used to run a server though slava and am running winmx at all times of the day
(except when I'm rebooting every 6 hours) I will get back to you all when I get a chance on that. And - No WinME is a good OS actually the most stable version of windows... - Mostly media and compatable - hardly any crashes.:mellow

Thanks Hunter

Well, not only arguable bloddysabbath. ME is the most likely culprit of the memory leak you referred to in an earlier post . ME is notorious for its resource wasting tendencies. I ran me for about 4 months, then upgraded to 2k pro.

WinMX being one of the progs always running, on Me 1.5 days and my computer was sooo sluggish. Running other progs wouls shorten that time considerably.

But after upgrading to 2k, all of thses issues were eliminated. A subsequent upgrade to xp has eliminated the few quirks with 2k. Either one being extrememly stable compared to 9x/ME . Uptimes measured in weeks not hours.

nogood, give it a shot, you have nothing 2 lose, partition a drive, or just use an old drive. Install 2k or xp. and see how your system runs. If u want either one, pm me, ill see what i can do. Run WinMX, san dl/config a slavanap server. And see what happens.

I noticed this thread a few days ago, but I was too lazy to reply in a timely manner, oh well.
Any way I’ve had a similar problem with Windows ME\share programs slowing my system to a halt, a RAM defrag program like RAMpage (FREE) or RAMbooster (FREE) makes Windows ME play nice. I use MemTurbo ($19.95) for my RAM defrag program, I get a sick thrill out of using programs that aren’t free.

P.S. I am too lazy to upgrade my OS too.
