What is the difference between Direct connect and DC++?

though IVe never used it since a lot of servers dont like you to connect at all. This is because it allows you to fake share to reach the minimum hub share limit... and thats just not my style...

actually fake share programs are a separate thing

++ has a constant search for new sources feature (very handy), most hubs allow it if you are on less than 5 hubs (since it allows multihub connections), it uses less resources, and has no ad banner--overall very nice

thats ok i changed over to ++ after i got sick of the thought that every time dc automatically clicked on the sponsors and said "thank you for visiting the sponsors" when i had not (about once an hour) someone (Jon Hess) was making money off of me dishonestly. i mean seriously if i wanted to click the banner fine, but don't force it on me--plus he's making money and his resources aren't even being utilized--hub "owners" are the ones taking all the punishment processor wise. he sits back and collects ad checks and hasn't made an upgrade in a year and a half.

so i went to ++ expecting this buggy piece of crap, and found it far superior to dc--features like granting your friends slots at will--not a very leechy thing in my opinion.

its really good--after a year of regular dc, and 1 week of ++ i'd say ++ is worth getting

"rooms" servers set up where users congregate--its what dc is based on--technically not "owned", but the person who starts one and maintains it is called the "owner"

a hub can be public or private, anyone can start one--most are subdivided into categories--movies, music, anime, family guy episodes etc.

they can have between 2 and 2000 users (via hub networks that share searches)

I've only seen that thing of "thanks..." one time. Maybe because I removed the registry entry it creates with Ad Aware, I don't know.

DC++ is really cool and small! But why do some hubs not want you in there? Is DC++ Bad for the network?

i tried ++ and i never understood it. how do u search for things. and how do u know that the hub that u joined is one that is good. like say u are looking for movies, how are u gonna know that one hub is better than another at finding movies. where do u start when u wanna get movies or games or whatever

in the hublist, the name and description tell you what the hub is about, the biggest hubs usually have a decent variety, but the specialized hubs have the rare stuff

I won't post anything negative about dc++ in this thread, but I'd like to point out that even though there hasn't been an update for ages,but the annoying banner pays for the hub list server bandwidth which I think is fair, the auto clicking has to go though, or at the very least give us a full hub list. Opinions on dc++ vary depending who you ask, from a hub owners point of view (not counting the sharing ethics behind some opinions on dc++) dc++ adds a fair bit of workload to the hub over the normal dc client with it's somewhat selfishness the way it non stop attempts connections to other users every 10 seconds or so, repeated searching with little time between each search is extremely hard on servers, the better ones have ways to deal with this though. For those who know the difference between active mode and passive mode.... well you can see how passive search floods aren't cool for the hubs....

comparing dc++ to dc, it's pretty obvious dc++ has more functionality, it's just a shame that there's so many losers who use it with such a selfish attitude or it'd be welcomed in way more hubs I bet. Personally I find dc++ seems to work in select few hubs, while others just suck and you can never get a slot from anyone, make up your own mind whether this is good or not. Oh and btw the more users doesn't mean it's a better hub at all, it's actually very easy to fill a hub full if you have super lax rules. What I think makes a good hub is users who don't share junk, stay online for long periods of time and keep returning to the same hubs to be with others who have the same idea of what makes a good dc hub.
