1) The developer would disagree (see www.edonkey2000.com) 2) The community is split, and the two resulting usergroups have therefore developed different support needs. On your "bandwagon" issue, all I can say is "pffftt." ZP is missing out on the only P2P bandwagon worth being on. After hopping on so many before, it's certainly found a funny time to stop. If you dont like OverNet just say soand don't make excuses, allright? |

overnet shares donkeys hang ups but donkey is way better.
both work best when nothing is being uploaded. that means heavy uploads stop downloads. also, sharing of downloads starts as soon as little as 9 mebabytes of a file are received. so you click on "mafia" and get "sacrifice" instead. then a lot of others uploading from you get the wrong file also. there is no way to first get the file, check it, then let it upload. both stop working and need a restart to get going again. that means your pc has to rehash all the downloading files and reset its shares. but overnet needs the dot-net software (22 megabytes). this does nothing for smooth running. overnet stalls and crashes like other p2p apps. but overnet is nothing more than a reskinned, unstable donkey. i dont recommend it. |

I tried Overnet. It connected. It DIDN'T give estimates on total users and all that at the bottom(just had question marks(?)). I searched for many common things(to test search feature). I got no search results for anything I searched for. Am I doing something wrong?

on your overnet be sure to have service pack 2 for that 22 megabyte mess (dot-net). it is a copy of the java "layer" on top of which the app does its job. this one is buggy so another service pack came out to fix it.
also we dont know what OS you have and what net connection you have. your ports have to be open correctly (firewall) and other things have to be online for overnet to work. the users and files numbers will always be estimates because overnet is a node-like app. that means you see only a small web of computers around you. so those numbers will never be right. all this tech talk for an app that really does not work very well!? chat doesnt upload with the enter button, searches have to be retyped each time, waiting for files takes forever, and so on. |

I'll have to agree with blady. Overnet needs a lot of work yet. It does run, but uses a lot more resources than edonkey.
Edonkey has issues. Overnet has edonkey's issues---and more of its own. Once the bugs are worked out, I think it might be better than edonkey. Keep pluggin at it! |
