LOL THEY LOSE AGAIN!!
Mike Maroth has now 2 games before he loses 20 games!!! I think they will sit him down in september and they will shut down Jeremy Bonderman to for they both dont lose 20 games!! here is the story Tigers de-clawed, streak continues By Jason Beck / MLB.com DETROIT -- The national attention of the 20-loss mark will be Mike Maroth's problem for the next 5 1/2 weeks. On Tuesday, his problem was Alex Rodriguez. The Rangers slugger who helped end Monday's 16-inning marathon with a two-run homer carried the Rangers to a much earlier victory Tuesday. His tie-breaking three-run homer in the third inning put Texas up for good in a 5-4 victory at Comerica Park, the Rangers' seventh straight win and the Tigers' seventh consecutive loss. Rodriguez either scored or drove in four Texas runs to saddle Maroth with his 18th loss of the season. A-Rod smashed a two-out triple off the base of the center-field wall in the first inning and scored on Rafael Palmeiro's single. His 35th home run of the year traveled just about as far. After Ben Petrick's homer in the bottom of the first tied the game at 1-1, Rodriguez's blasted Maroth's third-inning delivery 423 feet into the left-field seats, driving in Michael Young and Hank Blalock. Take away A-Rod, and Maroth takes a five-hit shutout into the seventh inning. For that matter, Maroth (6-18) likely lasts longer without A-Rod, who walked in the fifth inning. Maroth scattered three singles following Rodriguez's home run, but when A-Rod came up again with one out in the seventh, manager Alan Trammell went to his bullpen. Chris Spurling struck out Rodriguez on four pitches but gave up what became a critical insurance run in the eighth. Jason Jones hit a leadoff single, pinch-runner Donnie Sadler stole second and scored on Ramon Nivar's two-out single up the middle. Rodriguez is now 10-for-25 this season against the Tigers with three home runs and 10 RBIs. But that fifth run was barely too much for Petrick and the Tigers to match playing catch-up, one run at a time, against John Thomson (11-10). Petrick walked and scored in the bottom of the third to lessen the damage of A-Rod's homer. In the fifth, he doubled just inside third and came home three pitches later on Bobby Higginson's single. Following Nivar's RBI in the eighth, the Tigers again made it a one-run game when Carlos Peña tripled and scored on Shane Halter's sacrifice fly. The fact that Petrick was the only Tiger to do damage early was a blessing to Thomson, who walked the bases loaded in the second inning and escaped with an Alex Sanchez flyout. He had runners at the corners in the fifth and induced an inning-ending double play from Sanchez. The final threat finally chased Thomson, who left following Brandon Inge's leadoff single in the ninth. Brian Shouse promptly surrendered a single to pinch-runner Craig Monroe, putting Inge at second. He made up for it by quickly fielding Sanchez's sacrifice bunt try and firing to third for the forceout. He finished off the Tigers by striking out Ben Petrick and Bobby Higginson for his first Major League save. The Tigers have lost seven in a row for the sixth time this season. Maroth has lost five of his last six outings, three of them quality starts. Since a Peña error made one of his runs Tuesday unearned, Maroth qualified for his 11th quality start of the year, during which he's 3-8. Thomson, meanwhile, hasn't lost since July 22. |
