Maybe... but it will never return to it's former popularity.

I won't use it because I like the fast track network too much, especially being able to serach for videos and software...

But there are people who would return to it, just not many.

Thumbs down well.. - July 30th, 2002, 09:33 PM

honestly no. I don't think after all it's been through it could survive in any incarnation. I haven't even heard much on it coming back in a while.

I don't think it will have a chance. If it comes back, you will only be able to share .nap files, and only non-copyrighted material.

Napster is a brandname and trademark in search of a marketing plan.
As a trademark it has value.
Like Xerox ..Kleenex.. Coke...etc.. it is recognizable and represents something to almost everyone , just by saying the name.
Will Napster ever go back to what it was? ..NO!

...but I'm sure bright marketing types are working the VCs day and night with plans to keep the Napster brand name alive. Napster could market music like a Starbucks markets coffee or partner with a variety of retailers to have a docking station/cafe...area ...for point of purchase downloadable music.
Some phone booth size area to look up what you want ...plug in your handheld musical transport unit...pay( like 3/1.00)...and leave...just like dropping off film ...or buying ice cream.
And that cute little cat logo watches over it all.
Heh .Heh

:devil Yup gotta admit with you Mike that the napster name will continue somewhere but the napster network is dead. What I'm wondering is where does this leave Shaun Fanning? Anyone have any idea what he's up to these days. I haven't heard much about him lately and was just kinda curious. I would kinda like to see hime get together with some of the original napster team and maybe develop a new network. I know it's not very damn likely to happen but hey with what he learned from napster he definitely has insight on how to keep such network from facing the same problems as napster. Oh well I guess I can dream huh?

If by "come back" you mean "pay service", no way. If it comes back as a P2P client owned by someone overseas or something and the RIAA can't shut them down which is very unlikely, they have a lot of catching up to do with other clients(decentralization, multisource, etc...). Chances for Napster come back are slim. Looks like RIP napster.

napster lite? - April 23rd, 2003, 01:56 PM

Do you think that there could ever be a napster lite witch would allow the sharing of MP3's or is it the server which would control the file types?
