Sounds like a nice little experiment. I wonder how well it'll go over.

Is this suppose to stop it from spreading to P2P's? Ahaha...
If I liked the movie.. I'd buy the CD.. but this is a pretty stupid move.

Assuming anyone wants this, what's stopping ppl from sharing the version the get from itunes elsewhere on other networks?

PS.I never used itunes so sorry if this sounds stupid.

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".

All a person has to do is burn the aac tracks they purchased to cd, then rip them into mp3. Ha, this is not gonna stop anything.\

it's not supposed to stop it from getting on p2p, to all the people who think that's what this move is about.

it's about not making a cd. it's about selling an album for $10, digital only.

sure, you could buy the album, then make the cd, and have a cd.

this is a business move between apple and lxg. not some way to just stop p2p.

to everybody who thought that: you are a complete idiot. nothing will stop p2p.

I have to agree. What the studio is testing through iTunes (the most successful pay service so far) is how much money the recording studio can make off a digital-only release? Now sure, this test uses a very narrow buying audience, that of classical and soundtrack music. But it's an important niche because it's probably one of the least pirated, but top-selling types of music.

I personally think the CD is still a necessary product. And when I see this movie and if I like the music score, I would be interested in the soundtrack CD. But, I understand what the studio and iTunes is trying to do here.

"The album will not be sold on CD domestically at retail, although a CD version from Varèse Sarabande will be released at retail in other countries, and will also be available in the US directly from the label's site for the benefit of US customers unable to use the iTMS."

Full story here

Not really my kind of music anyways, but good luck. Fox Music will probably blame P2P anyways saying that they were forced to use Itunes.

Oh yeah.. I forgot.. Not everyone has a computer.. What about the minority?.. No CD = no sales for them..

P2P is cool....But P3P.. Oh boy!!

a cunning test - July 9th, 2003, 02:48 PM

Or it could be a cunning test to see how long it takes for iTunes music to get onto p2p....

They say atheists are most likely to believe in conspiracies - which is probably why I just thought of this! More likely, isus is right.
