metallica and rhcp - July 3rd, 2003, 01:13 PM

first off: i'm lazy so, rhcp = red hot chili peppers

do you care that they turned down the iTMS? i mean, wasn't metallica a big baby when napster was around?

personally, i think they can't handle the fact that nobody likes any of their songs, that they are getting old, etc. better bands are coming in, and they just want to get rid of p2p so they can make an extra $15.

i think they both suck. esp. rhcp, that one guy, who didn't have a shirt in one of the music videos, that was disgusting.

Isus-
I totally agree. Rhcp have got absolute shite recently, and are desperate for a quick buck.
Their new album is absolute crap, and has finally uncloaked their sellout-ness, and that they can't be bothered anymore.
I hear they're making two new songs for a 'Best of...' album. So basically they're gonna force their fans to buy the new 'Best of..' for about $18 to get two or three new songs.
They absolutely suck now. No effort = Death of the band.

Those things I use occasionally to download little delights I call MP3's:
Kazaa Lite
WinMX
Soulseek
Peerguardian
And anything else which works behind my proxy ^_^

Yes, I like both of them. And I have found that both of their new albums grow on you. Or at least they do on me.

To be honest, I think they're both handling "ageing" quite well. Neither band have stuck with their old style. They cannot be accused of making the same old shit over and over again.

As to the "Best Of" album. The whole point of a "Best Of" album is that it's a compilation of a band's best songs, not a totally new album, idiot!

This thread begs the question; what if it was one of your favorite bands that had turned down iTunes? Would you hate them also?

I apologize, it just seems someone is offended that iTunes was turned by 2 bands that could make them a lot of money.

(NOTE: I am not taking sides on the issue, because no one dislikes Metallica more than I do....But still.)

I wouldn't hate them, but I'd be disappointed, because it's really all about the music. I'm not a fucken groupie so their business decisions don't mean shit to me until they decide to form their music towards the masses instead of toward what's in their heart

A very well thought out response that sums up how I feel.

Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent.

Nobody has mentioned this, but in the Wall Street Journal they had an article relating to this, specifically about the pay sites not getting any big name talent, thus not being that popular, thus not drawing customers away from the free services such as Kazaa and Morpheus. But I guess it is sort of hard to do that if the artists reject the idea entirely.

I couldn't give a whit about metallica, but I sort of agree with Kiedis and co's decision. Sort of anyway. Not spot on. It isn't about selling out, its about having thier music sold the way they want. that's just how I feel about selling, because the artist is getting money in return for thier work, (my argument doesn't apply to freestyle downloading off kazaa or winmx)
Honestly, if they are worried about the demise of the album format, they should put better songs on the albums. (in my opinion, the chili's don't need to bother they do it quite well) or else they should start flaming on stroppy pop stars who churn out albums with 3 good songs and filler. those are the idiots destroying the album format, by making inconsistent crap and forcing someone who wants quality to download indivdual tracks. If it was britney spears going on about whole albums, I'd laugh my ass off.

ps. why is the board so slow today? or is it just me?

Its pretty slow here too.

I guess the complaint never was about paying for music since Itunes is paied service. They just want you to pay for the full album including the crappy filler songs that most popular music albums have (for every one or two good songs, there always 4 or 5 low quality filler songs).

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".

okay, good, I'm not crazy then

because we just switched over to comcast last night, (it was sort of forced on us)so if it was just me I'd go all paranoid thinking they did something to cap my bandwidth or whatever.

It sounds stupid but there's something I don't like about comcast, even more so than att. whatever.
