Penguin Liberation Front -
July 5th, 2003, 12:37 PM
If you're trying to get p2p or other similar apps running on Mandrake, may I suggest going and looking up the Penguin Liberation Front. They make good packages for mandrake, and they explain well how to install them.
Once you get the sources set up, you can just go in the control panel for urpmi (probably just called Install Programs) and selec MLDonkey there. MLDonkey also releases static binaries, which means you can just download the package, unpack it (like unzipping it) and run the file. There should be a readme in there to help you out. I have had some sucess with MLDonkey, but I almost like xMule better. I would recommend trying both out. Hope that helps, Later, Isamoor |

Gtk-gnutella -
July 5th, 2003, 03:59 PM
Hey, gtk-gnutella is some good stuff actually. I have real good luck using that program all the time. I hope you've got the final .92 stable release of it. If it's not a stable release, it'll only work well for 90 days or so. After that, other gtk-gnutella clients will ignore it. I don't really connect to many other gtk-gnutella clients (there aren't that many) so it should still work without them.
The official edonkey app is okay, but they don't really have a current gui for it. I always run into a buncha bugs and corruption with it though. I really recommend either MLDonkey or xMule/LMule for ed2k on linux. For MLDonkey, make sure you read the documents. You have to edit the downloads.ini file to initiate most of the networks. It's none too difficult though. Later, Isamoor |
