Ok, I am getting extremely annoyed with a certain issue I am having with downloading files from Bit Torrent, Shareaza, and eMule. Like most of you probably do, I will start large file downloads before I go to bed and then wake up hoping they are completed or almost complete. I have a Cable 1.5mb/s download speed provided by Charter Communications. Now, here is the problem I am having. It seems as though for some reason, when I start to download large files, particularly more than one at a time, that after anywhere from 10 minutes to a couple of hours, my internet connection dwindles away to nothing before completely cutting off altogether. I then have to reset my cable modem and wait for it to sync back up. It happens with BT, Shareaza, eMule, and others. So why is it doing this? I have the latest firmware...it's a Linksys cable modem, I have no router, but doing a soft reset on the cable modem is the only thing that bring my internet back, and I usually have to wait 5 minutes. This really sucks because I want to download these files, but I don't want to sit by my machine resetting the modem every short often. Any of you genius's have an idea where the problem is lying here? Please please help me.....it's very frustrating.

Charter Communnication -
June 15th, 2003, 10:25 AM
as far as i know - my friend works at Charter Communnications - ant those modems they provide suck ass - He told me to go out and buy my own so i did - and in the long run i have saved - since they charge you about 5 - 7 dollars a month to rent the modem from them
I recommend getting your own modem and returning their shitty one. I download alot and i have not had a problem - so its not them as far as i know - the problem is at your end - fix your shiat. and use www.dslreports.com to get better results. |

not a piece of junk -

Ok, first off....I am using Windows XP Pro, and it isn't a rented modem from the ISP, it is a Linksys cable modem, I mean I figured they make one of the best from editor picks and friends that use their products. Also, no-this problem NEVER occurs when I am not using any of the mentioned pieces of software. It happens more often with Bit Torrent than any other. Also, they only P2P software it doesn't seem to happen with is Kazaalite. I can start something downloading on it and it will run fine, never losing it's connection. Is there a piece of software out there that maybe I do not know about that could keep this connection up or just something? I love Bit Torrent, but I don't like resetting my cable modem all the time. Same thing with eMule and Shareaza, but it seems to happen more frequently with Bit Torrent. Suggestions and help please!
PS: From time to time, I will get connected and it will stay on just fine, but this only happens like 1 in every 50 times I use it. My Moblog Mom's Site |
