I have used ME for a few years, since it came out.
I don't mind it, but it wasn't on my computer, I has Win95....... Now I have XP, I have used all OSs, so some have good points and some bad. If you like ME than keep it. XP is good, but there are things I really like and things I really hate...If it ain't broke, don't fix it. |

I used ME for a long time, worked pretty good for me. I just moved to XP about 3 weeks ago, I think it's better. I did a wipe and install. On another system I did a upgrade, that didn't turn out as well, but did work.
The only thing about XP, is it's more like NT, so it's a little bit harder to mess with the settings if you have to, but less likely to have to mess with the settings. If that makes sense. lol |

I must be lucky or something - I don't have that problem. As far as my XP (Gates) comment goes. I not sure I trust the .net concept yet or any of the other "backdoor" things Mr. gates has stuck in XP. I think I will let more time pass & see how XP pans out over time. I'm comfortable with my OS - for now.

ME sucks horribly. Heck its worse than 98. Its got so many problems its not even worth buying. Id say if u want to upgrade go with 2000 or xp. xp has worked great for me, and 2000 is also very good (basically 2000 is xp without all the perdy stuff and a few features.)

XP is the most stable MS OS I've ever used (2k in a close second). Because of the hardware abstraction layer, a game crashing from too high an overclock on my video card doesn't bring down the entire OS (makes for much easier experimentation) unlike 9x/ME. That's just one example of the major stability improvements over Win9x you will see (that is if you're a gamer). The memory management is invariably superior to Win9x/ME for improved multitasking and general responsiveness. I was thoroughly impressed by Win2k and used it for about a year until installing XP RC2 and then fell in love with XP. Between Win2k and XP, I will never install Win9x/ME on any machine ever again. DOS is dead.
edit- the only downside to 2k/XP is that they require more horsepower to run acceptably than 9x/ME. This is an important aspect to consider, because if you've less than a 450MHz processor and 128Megs of RAM, it would be pretty sluggish (but still reliable). In this case, and if you have some time to dink around and all you generally do is surf and e-mail/IM, a Linux distro may suit your machine and use better (I suggest RedHat). ME is disgusting, get rid of it... j/k, if it works okay and your machine is a bit old it would be fine to just stick with it. Also, like CandyMann_69 said, it would be wise to reformat and perform a clean install rather than upgrade to XP over ME because it may not be as stable and might get screwy over time. Good luck :cross |

XP works fine for me, despite the occasional crash...
I do like very much the new features like the one-click cd-burning, the new version of windows media player which really kicks ass, etc. If you are a system resource and/or security Nazi, however, XP may not be for you. But I would recommend it for the average user... BTW, great name Sarevok... the Infinity Engine games rule! :^D |
