people hate me for this.

but osx is the best.

haha.

i would wait a few months before buying a mac though, they are releasing a great new cpu that will blow away anything intel or amd has for the same price.

and don't complain about expensive hardware:

The real deal - May 21st, 2003, 06:01 PM

People like Windows if they like to do certains things on their computers, and Mac if they like to do others. I use both: my family has WinXP and I have OS X downstairs in my room. The major highlights of Macs are the ease of use (ever if you're a computer guru it's refreshing), the great multimedia apps, and the way everything on a Mac works seamlessly. They're used by the majority of professional video/photo/animation people, and all the accessories are made to fit perfectly. No searching for drivers or getting adapters (or even installing software usually). The iPod's the best example.

The reason the screenshots look good is that Macs are very visual: they show you what to do instead of telling you. If you're drawn to the screenshots you might really like them.

The major problem with them is compatibility with Windows. You can get around that by, um, "buying" a copy of Virtual PC. It lets you run a windows OS in its own window, right on your Mac desktop. Macs are better for visual stuff, PCs are better for p2p and gaming. Virtual PC is invaluable.

the reason mac controls a whopping 3% of the market share and windows controls over 90 % is because back in the day, ol' bill decided that he'd allow other computer manufacturers to create computers that would run his OS. steve jobbs didn't do this. so now there were a bunch of companies supporting windows, and only 1 apple. support grew and grew for windows, and apple grew too, but not at such an exponential rate as MS. so long story short, <90% of people like non-proprietary OSs, and about 3% like proprietary OSs.
(dont get mad at me for that, its just a generalization)

since jobbs decided his OS would be proprietary (meaning it only runs on his products) that means that if you want to run a mac OS, you need a mac. plain and simple. there are currently no decent ways around this. however, there are rumors that apple may release an x86 ver of osx in the near future, which would in turn mean that it would be pc compatible. until then, your stuck with either 2 sytems, or your gonna have to live with one or the other.

<end objectivity>

for me, there really is no need for a mac. there isnt much software for macs that doesnt have an equally good (or better) windows counterpart. this is not true the other way around though. software for mac is (dare i say) pitiful compared to windows. and this is for good reason. why write a program for a max of 3% of the market when you can write a program that has a max potential of over 90%?

and then there's games. games for windows are very abundant. you'd be hard pressed to walk into circuit city and not find a windows compatible game that you'd like. conversely, you wont find ANY mac games in circuit city, unless of course, the creators put a mac version along with the pc version, which wasnt too uncommon a few years ago, but now that games take up whole cds and many times a second or third, that means that if they wanted to include a mac version, they;d have to create 2x the cds for the same profit. its just not going to happen.

and lest we forget: P2P

here's an analogy for you: windows P2P is to the garden of eden as mac P2P is to the weeds that grow through the cracks in your driveway. ok, so maybe its not THAT bad, but the key players in mac P2P are mainly gnutella clients. enough said. sure, there's DC for mac, but other than that, its pretty scamp.

and finally, the price. you can go out and by almost 2 comperable PCs for the price of one mac. and im being conservative saying that.

macs arent all bad though. they are top notch for graphics; if it weren't for the hefty price tag behind a good mac, im sure they'd be used for video and graphics a crapload more.

I remember this hilarious video i saw online. It was telling about how great the mac was in a sarcastic way. For example, it said, "you already know what all the best games on the mac are because you played them all 10 years ago on the pc. There's donkey kong, superdonkey kong... (voice trails off)" Or something close to that. Also it said, "It's SO easy to upgrade a mac. With a pc, you have to decide what goes where.. (talks all technical like), but with an apple, you just throw away your old one and get a new one.

I would say the reason my dad and ultimately I got a pc is because there just wasn't as much software for the mac at the time. I think there are still more programs for the pc.

On the other hand, if you want a computer that does graphic type programs really well, the mac is the way to go.

Guess it comes down to what do you want to do with your computer.

You can get just about every major p2p ecxept Kazaa on a Mac. And it seems most people at ZP don't adore Kazaa that much anyway (again, massive generalization).

You can get:

eDonkey/Overnet
BitTorrent
Gnutella
Direct Connect
IRC

The only thing I miss is a Piolet for Mac, it seems the kind of thing Mac users would like too. And don't forget Virtual PC: you can get anything windows too.

i just had to laugh when i saw this... haha.
ok. now, to reply on everything you say:
the first 2 paragraphs are reasonable. but where apple is proprietary, at least their hardware is original. can't say that about any case i have seen since alienware's original box. and that has been copied out the ass.

"there isnt much software for macs that doesnt have an equally good (or better) windows counterpart"
lol. yea, what about itunes? winamp doesn't equal itunes. where's the smart playlists, the music store, the media manager, support for mp3 ripping and burning without a plugin? and then, iphoto? or imovie?

the third paragraph: look around, there are mac games everywhere... ut2003, the sims, ghost recon or whatever that was called. bajillions of games for windows, millions for mac.

"windows P2P is to the garden of eden as mac P2P is to the weeds that grow through the cracks in your driveway"
haha. look at all the bullshit clones win has... almost every gnutella client is the same nowadays... the only good clients anymore are kazaa lite, winmx, shareaza, and piolet. and i could use neo if i wanted kazaa on a mac.

"and finally, the price. you can go out and by almost 2 comperable PCs for the price of one mac. and im being conservative saying that"
we already answered that... read the first reply... my post. look at the link.

It just so happens that I'm on my freinds imac and I took a screen shotty for all you guys. You can see my little convo with the new "iChat" that connects to AIM. And then of course you can see my avatar, because I was talking to my mom who was on my screen name at home, so it shows my avatar. (Gizmo Duck) I'm using Safari to cruise Zeropaid.

I have my PC at home with the "iTunes" skin because I like the clean look so much.

I am amazed at what this thing can do. I opened up a pdf file right in Apple Works by dragging it into paint. That's pretty amazing to me. Being that it's a propriety format and all.

Everything is 3D. It's pretty cool.

People on my "cool list" in no particular order.

I got my eMac for $650, so I dunno what you're talkin about a $2000 machine. It's not as cool looking as the iMac, but just as fast. That's the same as a comperable PC I think.

arguing is fun.

besides, i already realize that there a re a bajillion more people who don't understand how to get an apple for less ($2000 for a mac? what? you're talkin about a 17" pbook, right?)

i also realize that people like you who have never touched osx on a decent setup with the right software are just trying to push bill gates, the geeky looking freak, down our throats.

ehh, steve jobs might be geeky lookin too, but anywho...

nor will anyone else on this forum? there are several people who have already supported apple. just read...
