Description:

DC++ is an open source C++ client for the Direct Connect protocol. Direct Connect allows you to share files over the internet without restrictions or limits.

Getting Connected:

DC++ won’t connect automatically. To connect, go to File-Settings-Downloads and find the “Public Lists URL.” Then insert this link, http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/Pu...ist.config.bz2 and press OK. The public hublist will download automatically and you will see a list of many different hubs and descriptions.

Searching:

To search, you must first connect to a hub. To decide for which hub to connect, file the description of a hub that most resembles the description of the file you want, then connect to the hub. If you do not meet a certain criteria of shared material (usually at least 1 Gig) you will not be able to join a hub. If you choose hubs with fewer people, you will have a better chance of connecting. After entering the hub, use the search option to search for files like on any regular P2P program.

Downloading Files:

To download a file that you have found, double click on it to send it to your Download Queue for it to begin downloading.

Sharing:

Sharing files on the DC network is very important. If you try to freeload (leech) you will go no where and won’t be able to connect. To share, go to File-Settings-Sharing. Then specify what directories and folders you want to share by using the “Add Folder” button. After you’re done, press OK.

Chat:

DC++ has a chat system in every hub that can be very useful. It is somewhat familiar to IRC. Here are some commands that can be useful:

Chat Commands:

Command=Description

/grant=grants a slot to the user of the pm window you type in
/close=close current window
/help=short help message
/refresh=Refreshes list of shared files :)
/away <message>=Specifies a message to auto-respond in PM's while you're AFK (there's a default message so you don't need to specify one)
/back=Turn away message off
/slots <#>=Changes number of slots to <#>
/clear=Clears the main chat windows
/ts=Switches timestamps in chat windows on and off
/showjoins=Toggles joins/parts messages for the current hub
/search <string>=Searches for <string>
/join <hub>=Joins <hub>
/dc++=Gives a comment about DC++ and shows the URL and where you can get it
/fav /favorite=Adds hub to favourites (also works in pm's from that user)
