Tricks 2 Use P2P behind firewalls - July 10th, 2002, 08:01 AM

Seeing as no-one else has found a good use for this thread I thought I might as well give it a go.

Connecting.. Advanced Users.. Hmmm

Typical "Firewall/Router <-> Can't use p2p" Dilemma & Solution...

Okay.. You've got lots of p2p apps, you're at work, at college, whatever and you're going nutz 'coz ya desperate for the latest single from some RIAA affiliated bozo assmunch artist...

You can't use these apps because they don't connect out to ports 21 or 80, etc.. All other destination ports are blocked... whatta mother$£%*er...

But hey, wait, DON'T GIVE UP YET!!..

Using Socks2HTTP & SocksCap32 (both from download.com) allow 99% of you to get around this.

STEP #1
Setup Socks2HTTP to find the proxy automatically (unless you know the address), stick with the default gateway and activate the program.

STEP #2
Run SocksCap32. Drag and drop the EXE of the p2p app you wish to run into SocksCap32's window. Select 'Run Socksified'.

You can now use any app connecting to any port, you'll only get 3-7kb/s at present (this could improve in future i guess!?) - but if ur desperate for something... where there's a will.. there really is a way!!

Fuck the RIAA, firewalls, DMCA, MPAA, Fritz Hollins and all the other people I'd like to list, call of nature and I've spent enough time on this post already, soooo... LATERS!!! :)

In Socks2HTTP
If you don't know your proxy address, get the app to detect automatically. Whenever Socks2HTTP runs, it will keep a log, check the logfile and you'll probably find out where the problem is.

In SocksCap
Once Socks2HTTP is running, you run SocksCap, whatever program you want to use, just drag and drop it into the SocksCap window and select 'Run Socksified'

Your best bet with problems is to check out the FAQs and the discussion group, check the links at the top of the following page..

Hope that info's of some help to you.

HTTPort - August 20th, 2002, 06:11 AM

HTTPPort is another good application for getting around firewalls but again, this is slow too.

update:.. check out Golden Tequila's thread.. seems that using SSL/Connect can give you great speeds compared to what I was getting without SSL/Connect and the public hosts.

THE HELL THIS AIN'T WORKING!! - October 7th, 2002, 05:31 AM

I can do whatever I want! It just won't work. I need something else. Of course it would be best, if AG would just reopen. But somehow I don't have the feeling that's gonna happen!

its not that easy - October 7th, 2002, 10:17 AM

I've used SocksCap32, Socks2Http, HTTPORT, Http-tunnell, and yeah they'll work for ya... sometimes. They won't crash your system... sometimes... Yeah they'll give you speeds of 2 kb/s... sometimes... I would barely get these to work and when they did my p2p app was very unstable and would freeze up... not to mention my speeds would be a maximum of 2 kb/s... most of the time it was .80. Note thats not 80, but 0.80. I still have all this crud on my comp, but I use IRC... I don't like it because its kinda hard to search for something specific and you can't share, but its all I got.

Ok, I have installed both Socks2HTTP and SocksCap.

Socks2HTTP has detected HTTP proxy of my ISP but what should I enter into the SocksCap's settings in "SOCKS Server" field and port number?? (FAQ says "ask your ISP")

Any help would be very appreciated!!!

Ok! Somehow, Kazaa is working without a SocksCap utility at the moment (I'm still not sure what SocksCap does).

Thanks a lot!!

Question different port numbers - October 15th, 2002, 03:01 AM

I believe my ISP has blocked only some specified port numbers to prevent p2p traffic (socks2http works fine).

There were some posts that advised to change a port number in a p2p program.

Is it possible to run Kazza or another p2p program at user-definded port number? Does anyone knows?
