here's my thing:
i'd love to try one! they're just way too expensive!! i'm not going to pay multiple thousands of dollars for something that i may or may not use. "I have no special talents, I am only passionately curious." Albert Einstein Ask smart questions! |

yes, expense is one major reason why i dont PREFER macs.
another reason is the fact that they are incompatible with many things......especially since im a gamer. sure they have alternatives, and they may be better or worse, but i find that i can do just as much on XP as a mac. plus, XP almost never crashes......and if u cant handle a freeze up i dunno, once a month......then ur very impatient |

Yes most of your comments are true Apple's are expensive they arent very compatible but yet they are one of the most stable computers you can buy, the interface is awsome and its not full of security flaws like microsoft "IE you dont have to patch a patch because the patch you installed was full of more holes"

I think that Apple is good for what it's good for (that's my favorite saying). They are beautiful at graphical stuff, always have been. My problem is that they are too proprietary. I just bought a Western Digital hard drive for $86 on ebay with 120 Gigs and 7200RPM.
When I get it, I'll throw it in my non proprietary computer in 30 seconds and BAM, I've got 200 gigs. I'd like to see someone do that with an iMac. My friend's iMac got the mobo fried, he had to throw the entire thing away! The screen is going out on his new iMac, he's going to have to throw it away!! He has a new G4 with the superdrive. It's about 4 months old. My computer has 3 times the hard drive space, a faster DVD burner, that supports all 4 DVD formats, I've got a 19" ultra high res monitor (his is 15" crappy LCD), with 4 speaker Boston Accoustics surround system with subwoofer, I've got another DVD drive that reads CDs up to 48x so I can play StarCraft and listen to CDs at the same time. With my ATI Radeon 8500DV, I now have 4 firewire inputs, and 4 USB inputs. I can watch TV (and I do) on my comp, I can watch VHS tapes, I can capture anyting I want, and output it to TV (which I don't need to because my monitor is as big as my TV anyway). I have 50% more RAM than him. I can use floppy disks!!! The clock speed of my P4 is 3 times what his is. That's not to say it's faster, but I'm sure it could keep up. Go to Office Max, or Circuit City, or Best Buy or Costco or any of those stores and try to find any software that supports Mac. Nothing. Guaranteed, literally nothing. Well, once in a while, like StarCraft, you can play them on Mac ALSO. My computer is 2 years old, costs the same price as his new one 2 years ago, and is way better in every measureable way. Combine that with the lack of P2P networks, and you're spent. They just got support for divx encoding. What would I have spent all those lonely nights doing the last 2 years? Not encoding movies, that's for sure. They can't read Xvid or anything. If you're on Apple, it's Quicktime, or, Quicktime. It's Mac OS, or Mac OS. It's iTunes or iTunes. It's their way or the highway. They sued that one guy that made the iTunes plug in that allowed music sharing just because he didn't use their propriety coding language or something, that's just plane silly. There's no virtualdub, no open source software (of any consequence), no BItTorrent, no Kazaa, Shareaza, or any of the random utilities like DivFix, or VobMerge, AVI Preview, nothing. But, I don't hate apple or anything. For some people it works, and I'm happy for them. I love their iMovie, it's better than any PC movie maker I've used for the most part. I love their iPods, there's so other companies that have attempted clones, that are a lot cheaper, but they fall short every time. Apple looks to the future, which is a good thing, but sometimes they forget about the present, and that's no good. I'm all about having a drawer for CDs. They figured that was old hat, and got rid of it, just made it like a car CD player where you just put the CD in. They had to go back to the traditional CD drive in the newer models, they thought they didn't need a button for the CDdrive, after seeing my friend's lock up so much and not being able to get the CD out, it's no wonder they have buttons again. I'm waiting for them to go back to putting floppy drives on them, LOL. Ever tried using one of their mice? It makes me want to go postal using that for more than 5 minutes. Oh yeah, I've never seen an OS lock up more than Mac OSX, and that's the honest truth. Well, maybe Windows ME....LOL. I've got a funny story, it was on the top of the apple version of download.com's most talked about list for 5 years straight! Only recently have the banned talking about it or something (?). That tells you something about their variety of games they have available to them. fuckin microsoft internet explorer. my whole entry got erased and i dont know why. just poof, and it was gone.
anyway: theinfamousone: we have divx now :-\ to everyone mentioning expensive hardware: go to www.applepurchaseprogram.com im pretty sure it's $250 down, then the price of the mac. saves a lot on a lot of computers... for example: a 1ghz pmac, with 256mb ram, 60gb hard drive, and cd-rw/dvd-rom (combo) drive, costs under $900. a 1ghz pmac is more than plenty. even a dual 1.42 is under $1800 |

i find it hard to believe that apples can't play xvid, with it being open source and all.
I'll agree they're too expensive and don't support the apps (and games!) thati want to use, but they're beautiful, and SO well made. |
