Burning OGG Vorbis Files?!?! - July 9th, 2002, 12:06 PM

Is there a app that does this yet because I am now encoding in OGG instead of MP3 and you can't burn them with Nero?

don't think so - July 9th, 2002, 04:50 PM

Yeah I was looking for a app that burned on the fly, they way most apps burn mp3's.
But I haven't found one yet and I scoured the web, but maybe one will show up soon and someone will post it here.
My advice is to use a application like cdex and convert to wav and then burn it.
that is what I do and it is just one extra step, not that much of a hassle, besides it makes a better burn when you convert to wav first.

Yeah, I guess just use CDeX because that is what I'm using to burn OGG files to the harddrive.

Thanks!

cdex does not burn - July 10th, 2002, 02:37 AM

cdex is a ripper and encoder, it cannot burn a file to disc. You mean you are encoding to ogg format and saving them to your hard-drive.
EAC can burn cd's and is the only freeware app I have seen that does this. But I have not even seen a commercial application that burns ogg to cd. But fully expect someone to address that issue sometime, perhaps soon. I got a idea, perhaps if you write to the guy who is making eac, he might incorporate a new feature that allows burning ogg files to cd on the fly. Because that is really what your asking. You don't want to convert to wav first and I understand that, till then conver to wav and burn away...

If only Nero would just release their plugin SDK, this kinda thing wouldn't happen. MP3 is great, but WMA support? Who encodes in that format anyway? Vorbis RC4 already sounds better anyway. But yes, OGG and possibly MPC support for Nero would be a sweet deal and wouldn't cost them a dime. May even move some more avid audio burners to Nero!!!

best bet is EAC - July 10th, 2002, 03:44 AM

I was surprised that EAC wouldn't do the job as I was trying to see if I could make it do the ogg to cd burn. It supports ogg in encoding and has ability to burn mp3's direct to disc. It can convert mp3's to ogg or vice versa. I really do expect them to implement a new feature as they have it all but that one little feature. Actually EAC is surprising in all the features they pack in that one little application. It's a cd burning app, a wav editor and you can deglitch your mp3's that have pops with it as well as normalise the sound, so a collection of downloaded mp3's will have the same sound volume. It's freeware to boot!
I think ogg fans should rally behind eac and write the guy who is coding it. He is always making updates.
