How do I get rid of past tray icons? I was checking out my taskbar properties, and theres a lotta junk in there. I thought I had seen a thread about this, so I looked thru the forum, but didn't find it. Thanx in advance.

hmm.....thats a lot. cant you just right-click and close most of them? they should be removed on uninstall of the programs, for example kmd, dietk , fta, klcheater, autosearchmore, sharemonkey, grokster and piolet all definitely only appear when the program is running.

how many programs do you have running in the background?
do you use firewall/antivirus software?
what windows are you using?

if they're still in your tray, they are not uninstalled, with that much junk, I'd just reformat, but that's just me.

You can try typing 'msconfig' (this is only if you have Win 98, ME, or XP) into the run command on the start menu, then go to startup and deselect all the programs you don't want, for me personally, I don't have any checked. I think that 75% of all the computer problems is because other random software install themself deep into your computer and just fry it from the inside out.

A lot of resource problems are because of programs starting themself automatically. Once you get a couple dozen (as in your case) you're going to have problems.

Do you mean these icons?(Look at attachment)

If you do mean those ones, i don't think there is a way, but i will look around.

Ok, I actually found something.

Go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm And go to line 53 and click on Remove Past Items From Notification Area, Then just save that file to your harddrive and double click on it, then add it too the registry. once your all done, reboot.

There, Now they won't be in there anymore.

Yes, there is away, I have done this myself, it works:

Navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\
Explorer\TrayNotify

Delete Value Data in IconStreams and PastIconsStream
(Right click, Select all, Delete)

To refresh the registry hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, on Processes tab select Explorer.exe and End process. Go to Applications tab, New task..
Type Explorer then Ok.

I've done this 3 times, just follow what I wrote above.

the reg file works if you restart your computer, or just explorer (as lion explained)
