winmx---hacked

Hi all I am new...have read the site for sometime but have never registered.
Anyways I thought I would post this here and hear your opinions on just how somethin like this can happen. Apparently my fav winmx chatroom (Doo Wop 50s R&R) was hacked by some bozo calling himself Raped By God......basically he IMd everyone and told everyone to leave and some did not. Basically he gave a warning....next thing you know the whole room was sent to another chat called Racist and ignorant....we are talking about redirecting one whole chatroom to one that offends all of us. Then basically, people that had this happen were getting IMs saying u have been hacked and we are searching your pc for pictures. The whole room was basically hijacked. The connections people had were both primary and secondary. Basically he was telling people what they had on their hard drives also.....this is seriously scary. Any idea just how a whole chatroom with more than 25 people can all the sudden be redirected when the mod of the chat is there and cant kick them or anything? Apparently there are some winmx hacking tools we don't know about and some serious security issues.

As for your question, I've noticed that a lot can happen in WinMX chat rooms. There are several hacks (more than a few good japanese one's from what I hear) that offer admin's or even visitors to a room full of unprotected users the power to redirect, kick, ban, obtain ip's, etc (create mischief).

I'm not sure of the best defense. A good solid firewall is a place to start; it will at least relieve any paranoia. I tend to avoid such places & hang in safer territory. I know that Vladd44 could offer much good advice on this as well as many other WinMX related topics. Is there a Vladd signal?

i dont think winmx was really hacked. and no, they dont have serious security problems. thats just stupid... any server can be hacked, its not serious

you cant just move a whole chat from one into another (*without hacking into a server or having one of these japanese hacks*). i think you got tricked or something.

no not trickered....25 people were sent to a char toom that already had people in it..I think anymore just about anything can be hacked if people are willing enuff

Ya its a program called nuschi it erases people's names from chat room then kicks them and redirects room to where the person wants it to!!

by hacks i didn't mean "hacks" into your pc, i just meant "hacks" as in modifications to the original program to allow someone more power/control than intended by the program's original designer(s).

but an admin can't redirect and optain IPs in a room can they?

regular winmx has no admins, just a host..and access to ip is available in a variety of ways...easily obtainable by any host. Simply Ban and listban, then unban

but also, in RCMS chat room which can enable admins. ip address is available via a command by and admin.

but yes, its not anyone hacking into a computer, its just a dangerous version of nushi.

In regular rooms it can eliminate userlist, clone names etc.

in rcms rooms running older versions, it can redirect room, among a host of other issues.
