Hi all, I've been downloading movies for a couple of months now and bar a couple of hitches they've been fine, but I've jst started encountering a problem.

I downloaded Windows Media Player v9 last week and since then the movies I've downloaded won't play in full sreen size. I thought it might be just one movie but I've downloaded another since and the same thing is happening. I then thought it might just be the media player itself but now they won't play full size in the Kazaa theatre either.

Any ideas why this has started happening and what can make it go back to normal?

Help and info very much appreciated!!

does it display in full screen if you double click on the movie in windows media player?

I havent had WMP 9 for a while, but look under Tools > Options > Performance > Advanced, see if there is a check box for Full Screen Switch Mode. Then Close the player.

This Option gets undone with the installation of a Microsoft codec from a codec pack, I cant recall which.

I think krell got this, but I just had a few comments

The full screen button moved/changed icons, are you sure you're not just missing it?

Also, kazaa lite media player IS windows media player, you can prove that by going into full screen, it will then look exactly like full screen WMP

Ok, my friend just made things a whole lot worse. She thought downloading Windows Media v9 codec pack might help. Now it's just audio and not playing the video!

How do uninstall this codec pack? Some one help me please!!

p.s. I just did what you said Krell but I can't tell if it's worked yet coz of that fool of a bitch!!

Easy . . . easy . . . .dont pop a blood vessel, if you hit ALT + Enter, whatever media will play full screen. Plus you will haev a Full Screen option under View.

Also there are little bullets to look for to go full screen. . and I recall something else about the VIEW toolbar, but I cant recall it, look there too.

Man if this is as bad as your day gets, go take a nap, youre not bad off. Just be judicious about reinstalling the Nimo pack etc.

CSSDUDE and I have found that it helps to uninstall the codec packs fro ADD REMOVE Programs and start over.

Dont panick, just work it.

Yeah, even if the pack you just installed has no uninstall, UNINSTALL any other codec packs you have, and install either Nimo or the new K-lite codec pack (k-lite is updated more frequently, and has most of what you'd ever need)

I swear I typed the ALT ENTER thing, or at least I was going to, it was the reason I made the last post....oh well, thanks tho krell

Ok, problem solved. Cheers dudes. :)

I uninstalled the ffdshow and the divx bundle I had and then installed the DivX Pro pack and things seem to be ok. It's full screen again too so that seemed to work.

Sorry if I sounded a little panicy but I don't know much about computers and thought she might have screwed things. Plus I got up at 4 am this morning and it's now 10:10 pm so I guess I do need a nap, he he.

Thanx again peeps, I love this site!

Hey np, I am running on about 2 hours sleep myself, so I understand, glad to see it working, good job.

Glad to see you got it working

2 things
1. Unless you got a hacked copy, you just installed gator and who knows what else on your computer, run adaware or spybot on your system, or you'll regret it!
2. If I've replyed to a thread, I'll see when you post a new post, so you don't have to PM me telling me to look at your new post, thanks! :)

It also seems like you know more than you think, most people wouldn't have figured that out

Nice to see you back here

It's doing it again!! When I first clicked the 'Enable full screen switch' thing it worked and played in full screen. I just restarted my comp and now it's gone back to the little screen again. I went into Options again and that box is still checked so I don't what the heck is wrong now.

When I said it won't play full screen, I meant the screen does go to full but the movie is just in a little box in the corner with the rest of the screen black. I clicked Alt and Enter and it still does the same thing.

Any ideas what's wrong now? This is really annoying.

If the video screen is black, irrespective of size, then you are still missing a decompressor, a codec.

The util G-Spot or AVIcodec, will help you determine which video codec you still require for that movie.

You may need to reinstall the FDShow Alpha, found at Sourceforge.

You may also still need XviD . . . so use the above utils to see what you need.

This should take you less than 30 minutes to find and do.

Done that but it's still the same.

Checked it with GSpot and it just says 'codec IS installed'.

I guess I'm just gonna have to watch the movie with binoculars.

Now for some reason it won't even play at 200% the size!

I give up.

Have you tried other media players like Zoom Player, BSPlayer, etc?

I can't say I have. It's my friends computer and to be honest WMP is all I've used and I was very happy with it, I just can't understand why it would suddenly just fuck up like this.

It is seriously annoying watching a movie in a 6cm by 6cm screen.

I swear there used to be an option to resize by percentage, or check aspect ratios, if you find it, kudos

Do you have any other codec packs? Most include the Bicubic Resizer, which I think might be able to help you

The reason I ask if you have any codec packs installed, is if you install ALL of the codecs, you will get conflicts, and they usually do weird things (possibly your problem?)

Krell
April 16th, 2003, 02:54 PM
. . . it IS a codec problem, its an equal opportunity codec problem, and it happens on my machines too.

He needs to go back to the table, uninstall the codecs, get WMP working again, go from there. Theres no magic formula of which and which.

I was just speaking to some dude on K-Lite chat and h said try it in WMP2 and I did and it worked! It went full screen!

So why the heck ain't it working in WMP??

Incidentally, to answer your question I have the WMPv9 codecs, DivX 5.0.2 and ffdshow installed. Is this too much? Things kinda went wrong with the size when I had the same codecs as before so I don't think it was that.

Krell
April 16th, 2003, 03:21 PM
. . . because . . they are TWO different products, with different codecs.

Reinstall the WMP codec pack again.

byte this
April 16th, 2003, 04:32 PM
Do you mean reinstall theold WMP codecs or the WMP9 ones again?

I just redone the WMP8 ones and it's now playing at 200% but still not full screen.

Krell
April 16th, 2003, 05:07 PM
*sigh* do you wear matching socks?

WMP 8 codecs, go with WMP8

WMP9 codecs, go with WMP9

There is ONE specific driver for the full screen, thats ALL it does, it makes full screen. If it is not the current registered handler for . . . . " full screen " then you are SOL.

Where oh where can you find the full screen decompressor for WMP9? I give you two guesses, cuz I'm liberal.

Now go, go go go . . . handle this . . there's nothing more we can say to steer you in the right direction.

Um sorry, I guess I'll just stop asking.

Actually, that was a typo, I meant I'd reinstalled the WMP9 codecs not WMP8.

Oh and also, since you asked, I don't always wear matching socks.

Hello again, everything has been cool and I've watched a couple of movies in WMP2 but now, would you believe it, IT'S HAPPENING ON THERE TOO!!!

I changed absolutely nothing but now I'm having the same problem with this player. I click on 200%, the player goes to 200% but the movie picture just stays at 100%.

This officially sucks ass!!!!!

Anybody who knows anything else I can try, I'd be really, really grateful.

Before you PM me asking for help, I'll save you a step, I don't know, lol

Does this happen to all movies, or just certain movies/file extensions

byte this
April 30th, 2003, 08:19 AM
It doesn't do this with everything, just movies and few clips I've downloaded.

I've downloaded some wrestling matches and they've been fine.

Also, I'll try a movie one day and it'll work in full screen, then the next it won't.

Very, very strange.

Well, I was just going back to the thought that maybe a certain codec was the problem

Do you have the latest video card drivers? (I'll keep thinking of things till we get this...unless you want to reinstall windows, lol)

Oh for cryin out loud phalkon, of course its a particular codec problem, I told him EXACTLY what it is.

He needs to reset his avi associations, then reinstall the WMP9 codec pack, then put a checkmark in Full Screen Switch mode . . .

and keep workin it till he gets it.

I know you guys are sick of me now so this'll be the last post.

How do I reset my avi associations? I've done everything else.

I've reinstalled WMP9 twice, I've reinstalled the WM9 codecs 3 times still nothing has changed. I've checked the Enable Full Screen Switch button I don't know how many times.

Just somebody tell me how to reset my avi associations or whatever and I won't bother any of you again about this

Thanx.

Try this

Uninstall ALL of your codec packs

I know for a fact that when you install Nimo, and install the Microsoft Mpeg - 4 theres a problem with Full Screen switching.

So ditch any codec packs you have installed.

Next, either reinstall the WMP 9 codec pack, or just reinstall WMP 9 altogether

http://www.windowsmedia.com/9series/download/download.asp

Also, I would install Direct X 9 if you havent yet.

Heres an additional resource, and you may want to consult the HELP in WMP 9, or Microsofts site

Should I uninstall DivX 5.5 aswell?
