I've just installed WinMx after using Audiogalaxy for ages, but seem to have a big problem. It connects me to servers, but there is a lag everytime a click a button, after submitting a search it tells me its waiting for results but they never appear! While its doing this my internet connection is constantly receiving data, slowing down anything else i try to do, but still no search results!

I'm using 3.22, on an ADSL connection behind a firewall (Win 98 OS). What am i doing wrong, and will i ever get any results??

dunno i've used Mx since before napster went down. I've never really had much problem with it. I will say this sometiems it does take a minute or two for my search results to get back. I knowthis might sound stupid but are u with the latest version available? If Not i have had problems with results then and even connecting. but i get nice results about most of the time. I've even managed to find some obscure Texas bands on MX which i was very pleased to see. that's all about ican suggest with it or try changing connections if u have the newer version.

try logging on with the secondary connection. And uh, how are you putting in your requests? This may seem odd, but when using 2.6 I would submit a search like Artist/Title, but in 3.2 that wouldn't work, no results, but when I put them in like Artist Title that would work.

Well it's kind of like what i've said all along, WinMX sucks. To avoid a breakdown of your central nervous system, use something else.

Oh how the Iguana loathes, uh, actually the Iguana loves all no matter what. Ain't that refreshing, kind of like Irish Spring soap

:cross Win MX use to kick ass, but now with the new 3.22, it's slow and locks up(the first time that ever happened). You should try Xolox. It's a pretty good p2p....

I installed, tried out, and uninstalled XoloX in the span on half an hour. It crashed twice, I think, in something like 5 minutes. Of course I'm leaving out the wonderful ad banner at the top. That's always a pleasant addition to and file sharing program. Please note the sarcasm in the previous two sentences.

If you're looking for mp3s, I recommend Blubster, although I'm unsure as to how well it works with Win 98, as I have only tried it on Win XP Pro. As far as software, images, etc., try Grokster (clean version only), Kazaa Lite or the clean version of iMesh (thank you Dr. Damn). Basically anything on the Fast Track network, now that I think about it.

I only hope I was of some help here. WinMX sucks. As you were.

You said you are behind a firewall - you may have to go to "settings" then go to "internet connection" open that and click :incoming TCP connections - look at your options there - you probably have the top box checked - try the bottom box - then go to "In/Out UDP packets" and try the bottom box there.
I use Windows 98 with a DSL connection and I have had no problem with WinMx - except for the waiting forever problem with the queueing. I use the primary connection at startup and the top two boxes described above.
