View Full Version : Spymesh or Clean Imesh?

Imesh is spyware galore, everyone needs to get dr. damn's spyware-free version.

http://www.cleanclients.com/

From the website:

iMesh was never the most-used file sharing client, but it now connects to the FastTrack network and offers swarmed downloads (downloading different parts of the same file from multiple sources.) iMesh contains a bunch of spyware, such as Gator, Cydoor, etc, and it won't share MP3s that are more than 128kbps by default.

I now offer a hacked iMesh client. It comes complete with an installer and uninstaller (which is more than one can say about the official iMesh build!), shares all MP3s, and contains no spyware or advertisements, nor does it alter your Netscape settings like the official release. Because of this, the download is more than a megabyte smaller than the official version.

The last time I checked it, it didnīt work after deleting the Spytools (or did they change it?) you need some dummies then... or download the clean client!

dr. damn's clean version works great. Smaller file too.

But it seems imesh, the clean version, haven't tried any other. It seems to crash on me alot, so I have to baby it for awhile but I have downloaded and used it for up to 12 hours at a time and I think it's one of the best p2p apps right now.
Does anyone else have problems with it. It just disappears once in awhile. I probably over tax it, I always tend to download 15 to 20 files at a time or more if I can get away with it.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of. I d/l iMesh in 1999 when it was brand new and it f*cked up my computer. No program I have ever d/l had caused so much damage (long stories...). I haven't touched iMesh since ...

I have noticed this same behaviour... I start it minimize and go about other things, look for it later to see how it's doing, and it's nowhere to be found - check Task Manager and it's no longer running...

I've used the hacked version of IMeh for about 4 months now and I've had no problems at all. The official version used to crash on me. I've left the hacked one running for a couple of days at a time with no crashes. One thing - The hacked version says you can get higher bitrates but all I see is 128. For getting movies it's the fastest hands down - you have to get the correct file sizes - lots of fake files.

The official version comes with a whole mess of spyware. Gator, Cydoor, New.net... you name it, it's in there. This tends to make slower computers crash.

However, the main iMesh program still seems to crash, even without the spyware, on Windows ME and sometimes on Windows 98 SE. I don't know why, and neither does iMesh, apparently.

so I can assume then that imesh doesn't crash on winxp?
does it run on winxp or win2000?
I am getting ready to install one or both if I can on seperate partitions.

I haven't tried it on Windows 2000, but it runs fine on both the Pro and Home versions of XP in my experience.

I have taken your advice and downloaded iMesh. So far no crashes. Im impressed by what I see.

If KaZaA was to disappear I can really see iMesh taking over WinMX in second place in the p2p popularity stakes.

I have been getting lightening speed and results with winmx lately and I also get great speed and results with imesh. Just use them both :-)

but I did have to change my settings on the newer winmx, I kept crawling along till I changed to secondary connection. Now it's fast then ever!

If Kazaa were to disappear, so would most of the files you can get on imesh.

Does Dr.Damn's Spyware free client also eliminate the bit rate limit?

iMesh is quite a large network even without FastTrack

Does Dr.Damn's Spyware free client also eliminate the bit rate limit?

AFAIK, it does remove the bitrate limit.
