It doesn't matter than my crappy winmodem is a 56k, I get a 28.8 connection 95% of the time.

That's slow? That's quite a sweet connection. A 2.3 second megabyte download must rock.

I only get those kinds of speeds when I use my college's internet connection.

Damn. Now that's fast. I wish the universities in the United States had such connections. All the colleges I've gone to have had only T1s.

Not that T1s are the least bit slow, but 124 megabit is downright blazing. :devil

eivioolla
April 10th, 2003, 04:43 PM
I don't really understand the relevance of these speed tests, I mean don't they only test how fast your connection is to a some server on a some ISP in a some place in the US? Of course Americans will get the best results and people on the same ISP will get better speeds than people on other ISPs etc.

Borgster
April 10th, 2003, 04:43 PM
if your an average home computer user, you don't need a super fast oc-42 line, or any tx line. allthough having 0.1 seconds on a 1mbit download is pretty sweet, i wouldnt mind having that. i have been on dsl for almost a year now, and i have loved it ever since the day it came in the mail. don't most universities run there own isp to? my high school has there own isp, so im guessing most educational institutions have there own. broadband seems to be more widely available now than it was a year and a half ago.

Sure. You just press the "Prt Scrn" button on your keyboard to copy the screen to the clipboard. Then go to Microsoft paint, Adobe Photoshop, or another image editing software.

Copy the piece of screen you want to a new image file, resize it, and save it typically as a jpeg so it can be attached to a message.

He had it in the cache, he doesn't have that speed. His NIC wouldn't even be able to handle half that. And I know that the test place wouldn't be able to upload that fast.

Of course it's clearly edited. It was a JOKE.

As far as mathematics goes, I thought up a random number. Then converted it to kilobytes. The time it takes to download in seconds section, I just made that number up. Also, the bits per second was just made up. The real bits per second would be 3186098176.

Also, though that speed currently is improbable, it is not impossible. OC-192 lines are capable of 100 Gigs/sec speed, and that number is no where near that.

That number is clearly false in this application however, because, first their upload speed is no where near that fast so there is no way I would be getting that download. Second, even in an ideal situation where I could get that direct line, my hardrive would not process that fast. Third, no NIC supports that speed either.
