Don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I just received an e-mail from my ISP, which came from Mediaforce, telling me I downloaded?uploaded copyrighted material, and that I must delete the file from my computer. My Isp might terminate my service because I have violated their terms of service. They had a date the file was downloaded and what program was used to download the file. I realize these tactics are being used to scare the average person into not using any P2P program. It's worked! This is really bothering me, and I am not sure what I do next! I love using my P2P programs to grab whatever, but I also enjoy sharing. Now, I guess it is time to find a new hobby! I have been using Kazza, Gneculas and Win Mx, and it was Kazza they knew was used to download the file. Is Gnutella or Win MX less supectable to this sort of thing, or are all P2P networks in trouble with these bots? If I try filetopia, does it matter if the network is encrypted, or can these people inflitrate this network as well. Anyway, I will be putting my P2P programs to bed for a while (probably forever). I guess they have won!

Fear not Tanker, they aren't going to sue you because it would be way too costly to send one person to court and your ISP is probably not going to ditch you because they don't want to lose your business, they still are suffering from the .com bust ya know?! I got one of those notices myself for a Korn track (Korn - Reclaim my Place) I shared. Try putting up a firewall, that MAY help, although I'm not sure though.
Keep Sharing Buddy!

Kazaa is in with the ISPs. Some pay to get information about its users from Kazaa I believe. If the packets are encrypted and they aren't in communication with the network company, then they have no way to know if the file you are downloading is copyright or not. That's my 5 cents. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I use a firewall, but once open it up to allow which ever program to go out, then the firewall does no good.
I understand the probability of being sued by anyone concerned is close to nil, but it is still worrysome when you are threatened with termination of service, or just knowing what me or my family are doing in our own home is open to people who believe intimidation will solve anything! Please excuse my whinning, but now I am not so worried but just a little p.o.ed. Once I get over this, I imagine I will use a P2P app again, but on a limited basis. The thought of becoming a leech :(

I have this great ISP for 56k users, thats only $7.99 a month, with my ISP they don't care about p2p programs. They don't look at what you do on your computer. They respect at what you do online. So don't worry if you do get this ISP. but it's www.talentg.com I like it, it's unlimited without banners, or any of that junk. so I would get it for the sake of p2p!

I would change isp's if they are going to spy on you like that.
Also I been looking at other p2p apps and filetopia claims it encrypts your ip so you cannot be spyed upon.
Go check it out and see what you think....
Filetopia is not that popular but they are upgrading to a decentralised system and the actuall application is good. I used iut before when they first came out and may be trying it again soon. I think they will be gaining lot's of users soon, considering they way things are going with isp spying and other p2p apps getting snuffed.
I like the idea they have of creating groups , something like forums where friends and people of like interests can share. I understand lot's of audiogalaxy folks are going there.
Perhaps a zeropaid group could be made.
