phalkon, if you need a new edition, just send the html for the news mod page to cpugeniusmv@hotSPAMmail.com or whatever.

if it worked before, you should just need to replace the exe with this one.

this will probably be the final release. I have now integrated a system for automatically compensating for changes in the code of the news mod page. Unless there is a SIGNIFICANT redesign of it, it should continue to work behind all firewalls and proxy servers, as well as ad blockers such as proxomitron.

Well, it detects new mail just fine, but sat "checking" for over 15 minutes, I think the prox is messing it up again

I'm curious how this is supposed to work/look, when you get the time, think you could explain it to me?

Here's how it works:

Every one (or however many you specify) minutes, it downloads the source code for the news admin page, it then looks for the phrase "view news waiting to go live" and then it takes the number after that, compares it to the number of stories it has seen during that session. if it is greater, it says "hey! news" if it is less than or the same, then it doesn't. (only problem with that is that if someone posts a news story and publishes a different one in the same minute, then it won't pick up the new one. but i figure that is unlikely)

the 'comments' portion program downloads the source of the page that you get when you click on the news button at the top of the page, it then by the same magic used in the news getting function grabs all the news stories/urls/# of comments and separates those into 3 listboxes. if the number changes from the last known value of comments, it says "hey! comment!" (if there is a new news story posted in the time between checks, no comments will be reported because all the numbers will appear to have changed, and would notify you of all 50 stories on that page.)

the entire process takes only a few seconds, and you have to be watching to see the "checking..." flash by.

Is there a way to make it open in a NEW WINDOW? it sucks otherwise, I was editing some html, it took over that window, I forgot, and boom, I lost it all

I'm gonna push you till this thing is perfect and ready to be sold/pirated on kazaa :)

Seems to work pretty good now

One thing I noticed, I shut the program off last night, when I got on this morning, it recognized new news, but didn't recognize a bunch of new comments and a new story, do I have to leave it on 24/7? (I might have deleted the .dat files, can't remember)

yeah, thats a problem....here's why that happens:

it downloads the source for the news page (http://www.zeropaid.com/php/news.php) and takes those 50 stories and puts them into tables, when the number changes on the table, one of two things could have happened:

1. there is a new post(s)
2. there was a new story posted....

if it is the 2nd, then ALL the stories would appear to have new comments and you would have 50 msgboxs popping up...what i need to do to fix that is make it look at the name of the story and find the last known number in the database, i knew that would be a problem when i released it...and i'll be working on a solution.

this one won't come so quickly though :-)

Explanation:

reason it takes you to the news list is because there is no way for it to tell which news story (or stories!) was/were added (as of yet) so, i figured i'd just bring you there until i figure out a way around it...

and the reason it said there was new news just now is because i deleted my test news pages, and that changed the list of news stories, so it assumed that there was new news.

it now says which news story is new, and takes you there....but it comes at a price:

IF someone deletes a story: it will tell you about 50 new stories lol

so don't submit bad news, we don't want stuff deleted!

One thing I forgot to mention in my original PM, is a search feature, when a member is banned, we can scan the news for his posts and delete them

BUT, its not an immediately needed feature, just something in the future, we haven't had much of a problem with spammers in the past few days

I didn't make very many updates to this one, i recoded a little bit to make sure that the new comment thing works correctly in all situations. If you find a bug, let me know. But I'm fairly confident that the code is pretty solid.

fixed bug when deleting a story, it lets you know that there are 50 new stories :-B

no real need to upgrade, probably won't happen. but it's there if you want it.

ZPNews User Search 1.0 searches all news comments for specific terms. Useful for locating posts of banned users. Enjoy.

Just tried the news also, it deffinately sucks the shit out of your PC, it went to 97% and stayed there for a looooong time when I typed my name in, lol

and as for that installer, i don't need it...all i'm doing is registering a few libraries...all you guys are competent enough to run a batch flie ;-)

EDIT: if you havent run the news proram (zpnews) in a while, it will tell you about ALL comments since you last ran it. easiest way to get around that is hold the N key and it will hit no every time lol.

Okay, now I'm home from school and I can explain the user search program better:

The CPU usage will be 100% for several seconds, it takes about 30 seconds on my athlon xp 2400. but after that, it's only 3 or 4 % as it downloads/searches. (total search time: around 10 minutes)

as for that zpnews bug....when did it occur?

Now by default only searches 50 most recent news stories, but can still search all of them.

IMPORTANT

if you updated to 1.93, you NEED to get this one...there was a bug in the timer in 1.93 that makes it check the news only twice, and never again.
