Anyone know how I can make a DOS Boot disk for XP? I'm trying to flash my firmware of my DVD (not burner) drive cuz it is 2 years old and can't read DVD+RWs. And I would also like it to be region free, but I can't launch the updates until I'm in Real DOS.
It's a matshita SR-8586, you think it will help to update the firmware or am I wasting my time?

When you format a floppy in XP there's an option to make it bootable. I usually go to www.bootdisk.com when I need real DOS mode though.

Just use any boot disk, make sure you are set to boot from floppy first in the boot process, if it asks to start with CD ROM support, say no, dont need it.
Then remove the boot floppy, and insert your flash, follow the instructions implicitly.
I doubt that unless your new rom specifically says region free, it will do you any good, but hey, one way to find out.

Yeah, this website says it has region free firmware updates. You can check it out here (http://forum.firmware-flash.com/dl_all.php#M) . I'll get back to you when I do it.
