I've never had this problem, could it be your OS?

One thing that will chew up a lot of memory, is having more sources per download, I think its something like 128k or more per source, so as you find more sources for more downloads, you can see how this would effect performance

Other things, like how often it refreshes your shared folder, how often it finds more sources, how many files you're sharing, if you're a supernode, etc will also take a lot of RAM

It could be an actual leak in kazaa, but I haven't heard too many complaints, and I've never noticed it on XP, if you have 98, then that could be your problem and you may want to get a ramcleaner

yes i'm using windows 98se, i've usually only got about 5 files downloading and there is rarely more than 5 sources for any of them. i'm only sharing about 100 files, with 10 minute file refresh (i used to share about 10000 files when i was sharing mp3's, and i never noticed the memory loss)

could you suggest a good 'ram cleaner' program, i'm using "ram page" at the moment

Chris Pirillo suggests CacheMan (http://www.outertech.com/product.php?product=3)

Well, I was going to recommend freemem pro, but its not free anymore

http://download.com.com/3000-2086-10176334.html?tag=lst-0-18 looks nice, supposedly it can fix leaks, I doubt it though...

Any ram cleaner should be fine, they essentially do the same thing, and you don't want to install more than you have to

I'm not sure, it could be a bug, it could be your computer, you can try Memtest86 (http://www.memtest86.com/) for checking for hardware memory leaks

Hey, experienced the same probs on ME and on XP. I found some pe hantaner viruses on scan but after deletion the problem persisted. I've run several different system checks but nothing other then a total reformat has worked. No one I know has had this problem so it's nice to hear someone has. I deplore virus protection but I'm running norton now to see if it prevents it. At first you just think that you might be using too much space so you start deleting progs. but the space doesn't come back. I'm trying to also find the common thread between my d/l's in me and xp for my pc to experience the same problem.

Taking the good with the bad....

downloaded cyberlat ram cleaner this morning before going to work, just got home and my memory has not gone down, this program seems to work well, and it also has another great feature when windows explorer crashes (which it seems to do a lot of recently) pressing Ctrl+Alt+F5 and it reloads windows explorer without having to restart the computer, shame it's not free ($9.99)

thanks to everyone who helped, if anyone else want to try cyberlat ram cleaner here is the link www.ramcleaner.net

yeah, the k++ 2.10 does seem to take quite some of ram. i'm downloading about 6 files and the remaining ram is only 40mb+ (256mb total). and the system's getting pretty slow. opened applications are norton av 2k2, windows msg, ie, mozilla.

eizo, how many files are you sharing, and how many sources do you have it set for, that will greatly change the ram

I honestly don't have a problem, no matter how hard I try, it won't take much ram from me, last night I was downloading on kazaa with speedup, had trillian running, mirc up, and was playing ut2003
