Microsoft will change some "things" on Windows XP.
On the nexts versions of it, they will put a button, to uninstall Microsoft Internet Explorer.
That's cool...
But they never talked about MSN Messenger or things like that.

Is this planned for SP2? I highly doubt it. If they're smart, they will make it easy to unistall IE in the next OS, codenamed "Longhorn."

if u mean Windows messenger there is a help article in the MS knowledge base about how to remove it. its not hard at all, just not obvious for most home users. btw if u use the XP search with an internet connection then this is also brought up as a result so u don't actually to go to the knowledge base urself.

that will be nice, but difficult. windows messenger is easy, jus do a google search for "remove windows messenger" but is it actually possible to safely remove internet explorer?

Ha, you won't be able to "uninstall" Internet Explorer, just make IE invisible to the average user. With SP1 you can do that already, but it isn't straight forward.
I doubt it will ever give you an option to completely rid yourself of dreadful integrated IE.

You're right from what I understand
The option is there to remove it from your menus and desktops, its just burried a little bit
I can't find the article I saw on it, but they didn't really ever say when it would be put in place
MSN messenger can be removed, there is a registry key that when changed makes MSN messenger show up in the ad remove programs thing

Windows (MSN) Messenger - Can be removed easily
Windows Media Player (XP) - Can be removed with some work
Internet Explorer - Hard to remove without messing up your system, Windows 98 and 95 can remove IE easily with Win98 Lite, but XP and 2000 will require WinXP Lite, which is still in development.

It'll be good to at least have the option for removing them, but it still remains to be seen if they would really implement it.

Why would you want to remove Internet Explorer? That desperate to get a few lousy MBs back? If you don't like the browser, simply user another one. I have used Mozilla for quite some time now and I never bother with IE. Still it's on my system just sitting there, is that really so bad? It doesn't interfere with anything... why even take the chance of messing up your system?!

Do you even know what you're talking about??? Internet Explorer is tied into the system, which makes your system run a HELL of a lot slower. If you don't believe me, get a copy of Windows 98... then remove IE with Win98 lite (http://www.tweakpc.com/Download_files/98lite22.zip). It speeds it up a massive amount.

And also Hans, this would only remove it from the desktop and menus, it wouldn't remove the browser completely

I don't think IE is all that bad of a browser, well, at least with some sort of shell to allow tabbed browsing. IE is very archaic in the sense that it hasn't adopted tabbed browsing. Still, as far as rendering some pages, it still does a better job. You also need it if you want to run an online virus scanner or use PCPitstop.com. So, I wouldn't want to remove it from my system. Although, having it as a preinstalled browser that's not tied into the operating system would be nice.

I just use Mozilla and delete the shortcuts to IE.
Out of sight, out of mind.
.................But...............
It would be nice if it wasn't built into the operating system. Windows would work a lot better if IE wasn't integrated all over the place.
