when i launch my kazaalite and start searching for files, i get all these checkered boxes and then i have to reboot my computer. is this a virus? how do i get rid of the problem? i'm running on win98.

My personal opinion, which some people disagree with, is that
an operating system which allows an application program to
crash the whole computer is fundamentally broken.
I suggest getting a competent person to replace win98 with somthing more reliable.
I assume you are using the bullguard antivirus that is built
into kazaa. You can turn it off. Disable scanning of shared files
in the options.
I have little confidence in bullguard. I suggest getting a
different antivirus program, if you don't have one already.
Personally I don't run any executable files from kazaa.
Don't run any programs from kazaa unless they have been virus scanned.

Checkerd boxes? I see spotted elephants sometimes but not checkered boxes...
By the way, this belongs in the Kazaa or Kazaalite forum.
