It's not "anal" to fear legal consequence and to take steps to prevent it.

there are always jerks who think they were slighted by some user somewhere and feel the need to get revenge on the system by spoiling it for everyone--zp has had them, dc has had them, and i'm sure this guy is one of them

they lack the skills to wreck it themselves, so they ask around to find someone dumb enough to tell them

Exactly.

Imagine this : you run a DC hub. You do it because you wanna share stuff you enjoy with other people, and you like it that others do the same. But it costs you money, or time, or both...so you get to a point where you say "hey, it´s all good, but if you ppl would like to keep this running, I would appreciate some contributions. You don´t have to do it, but if you feel that you enjoy this and it merits your support, your help would be appreciated. In return, you might get some goodies". Now, notice, by not contributing, ppl will still be able to come on your hub as usual, and enjoy it, but if they do, they may get something extra out of it. Your not making it obligatory, you just want some help.
Now imagine someone wants to get that little extra without giving shit in return...so they ask around for a way to do exactly that.
How would that make you feel, and what would the ppl that DO give something back feel about it?
